After recently adding DC’s Aquaman as a playable character, Fortnite might be teasing a rival collaboration with Marvel, hinting at Thor as yet another addition to the game. The tease comes shortly after Epic Games' battle royale received Hulk’s fists as a mining tool to replace its pickaxe.
The latest crossover between Marvel and Epic featured free Fortnite items for everyone who played through Marvel’s Avengers' beta and completed a handful of challenges. These cosmetics included the aforementioned Hulk’s fists and Iron Man’s metal gloves from his Hulkbuster suit, both of which replace common pickaxes. While that’s a nice piece of content, Epic recently introduced a large pack of new additions in the form of the massive Joy Ride update featuring various vehicles to ride around the Battle Island. If that’s not enough, Fortnite is teasing an in-game event related to the upcoming movie Tenet by Christopher Nolan. And now, it appears that Epic Games is going for something even bigger, and it’s expected to happen soon.
A series of leaks containing datamined information reveals that Fortnite might be getting yet another collaboration with Marvel. According to leaker Hypex, there’s a high probability of seeing Thor and Galactus being added to Fortnite in some form. It all started with discovering a new Rift in the game’s files, which is supposed to open fairly soon right above the Agency area of the map. The Rift is linked to a specific sound file, which - if played through a spectrograph - reveals a very distinctive image of one Marvel’s arch-villains, Galactus. While this is already hot news, there’s a lot more to the story. Apparently, Thor is also on his way to Fortnite, according to numerous reports from console players. When Battle Pass owners try to switch accounts on Xbox, an intriguing comic book appears on the screen. It can’t be viewed directly, but when clicked on and briefly magnified, the book reveals a few Marvel-related images, the most exciting one of which is the latest iteration of Thor.
The God of Thunder has recently seen a redesign courtesy of artist Nic Klein, and this particular exterior is featured in Fortnite’s hidden comic book. Apart from Thor, there’s the famous Rainbow Bridge, which is commonly used by Asgardians to travel across the Marvel Universe. To spice things up even further, there’s another image of Galactus along with a couple of yet-to-be-identified frames. Epic Games hasn’t responded to these massive leaks, although an announcement of sorts is probably coming soon. Fans strongly believe that Thor will be playable much like Aquaman is, while theories regarding Galactus’ involvement are still vague and uncertain.
Most likely, the teased collaboration between Marvel and Epic will be a huge one. Tying Galactus to a new Rift in Fortnite’s sky might imply an Avengers-level threat with Marvel’s notorious villain playing a big role in a seasonal event. There also could be something related to Fortnite's previous crossover featuring a playable Thanos with a set of special abilities. One way or another, Epic Games is probably preparing for something exciting, and it’s a fair assumption that the upcoming release of Marvel’s Avengers is the cause of this initiative.
Fortnite is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, PC, and mobile devices.
