The Umbrella Academy has been nothing short of immense success for Netflix, as the superhero-drama has received incredible reviews from fans and critics alike. The series recently came out with its second season and it is fair to say that it was considerably better than the first.
One of the most integral characters of the series, Five, again, had a huge role play in the second season and it's no surprise that he is an absolute fan favorite. It's as if Aidan Gallagher was born to play this role and he absolutely nails every scene, stealing the show a couple of times. Five's popularity has raised questions, though, that fans want to see answered.
10 What Are His Powers?
Five isn't one of the strongest ones in The Umbrella Academy, but his powers can have a huge impact on the outcome of a particular situation. He can generate energy from inside him to jump from one place to another and from one timeline to another. In short, using his powers, he can manipulate time and space. It's such a cool power to have because of the fact that it can get one out of very nasty situations, without any fuss.
9 Why Did He Travel To The Future?
As a kid, Umbrella Academy's Five wasn't very easy to handle because he thought he is the best among his siblings. He was too smart for himself and when he confronted Sir Reginald Hargreeves about time travel, he squashed his questions and told him that he needed more practice before even trying to attempt it. So, out of spite, Five continuously jumped from one timeline to another, until he couldn't.
8 What Did He Do In The Future?
After trying and failing to jump back into the past, Five found himself stuck in a post-apocalyptic world, fighting for food and survival. He literally grew old in this world and the loneliness did have an impact on his brain.
Despite everything going against him, Five managed to survive before a woman named The Handler came by to recruit him for The Commission, a body that governs space and time.
7 How Did He Get Trapped In A Child's Body?
After being recruited by The Commission as an assassin, Number Five aided them in killing a lot of people who tried to shift the current timeline off balance, by making different choices. He not only did a great job, but he also had a hundred percent kill rate. On his last mission to kill John. F. Kennedy, Five decided to try a theory. He tried to jump into 2019, ten days before the apocalypse but because he got the equation wrong, he found himself in a kid's body.
6 How Is His Relationship With Sir Reginald Hargreeves?
Five was never an admirer of his dad, Sir Reginald Hargreeves, but in the end, he developed a certain respect for the old man because he was proven right about almost everything. Even though he usually treated his kids in a rough way, Number Five never stood it and he always acted like a rebel, taking a stand against his dad. Still, though, Five knows he wouldn't be where he is if he never listened to Reginald.
5 How Is He As A Person?
Throughout the Umbrella Academy series, it can be said that Number Five acts the most mature, although he is quite aggressive and mostly angry. After all, he is the biggest member of The Umbrella Academy age-wise, even though he is in a child's body. Let's just say Five is not someone one would want to be friends with because of the way he acts. It's always business for him and not once has anyone seen him enjoying the perks of life. He is addicted to this apocalypse timeline.
4 How Did He Meet His Own Self?
After missing the deadline of traveling back to where they came from, Five, in a desperate quest to find a solution, proposes the idea of meeting his younger self (age-wise), who was there in 1963 for a completely different business.
Luther and Five made their way to the younger Five in an older boy and proposed a deal to him, which would see him parting ways with his briefcase. What followed were some hilarious, yet thrilling moments.
3 How And Why Did He Assassinate The Board Of The Commission?
The Handler, for the smart woman she is, offered Five a chance to save his Umbrella Academy family, only if he was willing to do something in return. She wanted Five to assassinate every member of The Board of The Commission, in return for the time-traveling briefcase. So, Five made his way to the designated spot and killed everyone but The Handler didn't stay true to the original agreement. She played Five for his desperation to save his family.
2 What Is His Relationship Status?
It's no surprise that Five is pretty bad at socializing in Umbrella Academy because of the fact that he spent most of his life in a post-apocalyptic world but still, he managed to find himself a friend, namely Dolores who was a literal doll. Five only had her and he used to talk to her every step of the way. After parting ways with her in the first season, one can say that as of right now, Five is single. Who will be involved romantically with an old man in a young body in season three? It's going to be interesting to see.
1 How Did He Save Every One Of His Siblings, Twice?
As noted previously, while Five isn't the strongest, his powers can have a massive say in the outcome of a situation. The first time Five saved everyone was the apocalypse situation in 2019. He took everyone and jumped to the past, just in time when the moon hit the Earth. Next, he saved everyone by manipulating time and going back a few seconds, when The Handler had all but killed everyone with her bullets. The whole Umbrella Academy owes its life to Five.
