Bungie has added a new quest to Destiny 2 in honor of Vicarious Visions Matt Helsom, who passed away last year. Helsom worked at Vicarious Visions up until his passing and contributed to the Destiny universe we see today.
Vicarious Visions was acquired by gaming publisher Activision in 2005, since then the company has worked on titles such as the Skylanders franchise, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, several Guitar Hero titles, and the recently released Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 remakes. The company has also worked on a number of Disney titles over the years. In 2016, Vicarious Visions was announced as a partner company to Bungie on Destiny going forward.
Announced by Bungie, the quest will be on Mars, where players will be sent to complete a short story devised to pay tribute to Helsom. Players will need to locate a specific area and use their Ghosts to investigate it. Afterwards Guardians can return to NPC Anastasia Bray for a reward, followed by a tribute to the late Helsom written into the canonical Destiny lore, which names the late developer as a Golden Age Figure. In order to begin the quest, players can head to the Braytech Futurescape area on Mars and into the Mindlab, inside the building is a small device that can be activated to begin the quest.
This isn’t the only new content being added to Destiny, with some spooky Ghost skins making their debut ahead of the Beyond Light expansion for Destiny 2. Once the new expansion goes live, Ghosts will play a much bigger role in the game, affecting player experience in a more direct way than simply acting as a tool to move the story along. Players will be able to equip all a total of four mods to the new Ghosts shells, replacing their reloaded perks at a cost. These mods will be available to be acquired when Beyond Light releases, with stronger mods available as more of the expansion is completed.
In the latest trailer for Destiny 2: Beyond Light, Bungie shared some new footage of the areas Guardians will be exploring on Europa. Along with new areas and missions, a fourth type of elemental damage for each class is being added to the series, Stasis. This new kind of elemental type will ring in a new era for the Guardians on Earth, with many secrets and new stories to be found on when Beyond Light releases. In addition to these changes, players will have the opportunity to play Bungie's send-off quest to their fallen fellow developer.
Destiny 2 is available now for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia, and it will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X at an unannounced date.
