A recent Fall Guys update will increase the likelihood of players encountering season 2's new obstacle courses, and it also introduces a new playlist called Slime Survivors. The cartoonish battle royale was an instant hit when it released in August, and while it's been somewhat supplanted by Among Us in the popular eye, it remains a delightfully unique take on a very populous multiplayer genre.
Season 2 of the chaotic Fall Guys has been out for roughly a week now. The new season introduces a medieval themes, with several obstacle courses themed after dungeons and castles. The game's adorable jelly bean characters can now dress up as knights, dragons, and wizards as they explore the new content. In addition to medieval costumes and settings, season 2 has brought forth a ton of other new content, including customizable player banners and nicknames. Since every player is assigned a random number in the game, these pieces of flair give fans new ways to express themselves in the Fall Guys community.
Fans have had a week to submit their feedback on the new season, and Mediatonic has had a week to listen. Many players have complained that there's no easy way to try out the brand new levels that have been introduced in season 2, of which there are only four. This is a problem that the company seeks to address in its newest update. The Twitter page has announced all the details of the update, including an increased chance to see the new medieval levels, as well as a brand new playlist called Slime Survivors. This playlist subjects players to back to back survival games, which eliminate players when they die. In addition to the new playlist, Mediatonic is also making the aforementioned banners less likely to appear in the regular store, so coveted player costumes will be easier to find.
Mediatonic has been slowly increasing its experimentation with playlists, or "shows," ever since it introduced a special gauntlet with no team games. It's good to see the trend continue but, as numerous commenters on Twitter have pointed out, Slime Survivors is awfully repetitive, giving players certain levels like Perfect Match and Jump Club back to back three to five times in a row. While the idea of filtering out minigames like this is great in theory, better randomization is clearly needed. On the bright side, fans can still enjoy more of season 2's new offerings in the main game.
Game development is a difficult job, and it's all but impossible to get things right on the first try. Fortunately, Mediatonic has shown a fervent commitment to working with its player base, identifying and resolving issues wherever they crop up. Fall Guys may not be a perfect game, but thanks to the dedicated work of its developers, it's getting better all the time.
