The New Girl main and supporting characters all have unique personalities that are developed in fun ways throughout the series. There's main character Jess's excitable nature that balances against Nick's gruff but lovable personality. There's Schmidt's need to be in control and Winston's lovable but quirky nature.
Most Disney characters also have well-developed personalities in the films and franchises that they've appeared in within the Disney universe. In fact, a lot of them actually line up pretty well when compared to the characters from New Girl in more ways than you'd probably think.
10 Jess - Rapunzel
Jess is the female lead of the show and has an equal match of adventurous and safe throughout most of the series as she wants to try new things, but she typically ends up doing the same routine in her life. Both Rapunzel and Jess are strong female leads who enjoy their feminine side and the small delights in life.
Jess becomes comfortable with her life in the loft and her roommates and likes to keep to a set routine with her best friend Cece, similar to how Rapunzel falls into a comfortable routine with her Mother Gothel. Jess also keeps a steady job as a teacher and has truly found her passion in that field without going outside of her comfort zone, similar to Rapunzel accepting the tower as her home for most of her life. Also, Jess is easily excitable just like Rapunzel in Tangled.
9 Nick - Carl Fredricksen
Nick Miller is easily the most curmudgeon like character on New Girl. The entire cast of characters refer to him as an old man and countless flashback scenes show that Nick has been an old man ever since he was a kid.
Carl from Up is an elderly man who has confined himself to loneliness at home after the death of his wife, Ellie, and tends to push everyone away with his anger. Nick prefers to be alone unless he's with someone he truly cares about like his best friends and roommates.
8 Schmidt - Woody
Both Schmidt and Woody from Toy Story love to be in control and think they're the best leader of their group of friends. Both characters tend to freak out when they're not in control or when they feel that they're not well-liked amongst their peers.
Schmidt doesn't like it when his friend group makes fun of him and Woody doesn't like that his friends seem to leave him for the cool new toy, Buzz Lightyear. The two both become incredibly stressed and have a difficult time calming down as they usually begin to scream in hysterics when things aren't going to plan, especially Schmidt, making him one of the funniest characters on New Girl.
7 Winston - Tigger
Winston is a quirky and upbeat character who loves playing weird pranks that either don't go far enough or go way too far. Winston is a lovable character who grows throughout the series and cares about his friends, but sometimes he goes too far and annoys his friends.
Ultimately, they always patch things up, making him just like Tigger. Tigger is nonstop energy and loves to crash in on his friends' plans in the most loving way possible. They get irritated by him but they still love him.
6 Cece - Moana
Cece is Jess's best friend and she is definitely the more adventurous of the two. Cece cares deeply for Jess and would do anything for her.
Later in the series, once Cece and Schmidt become close and eventually married, she would do anything for him too. She's loyal and cunning and independent while also wanting to seek support from her loved ones when she needs it, making her just like Moana.
5 Coach - Mike Wazowski
This seems like an odd choice on the surface because Coach and Mike have completely different looks, but honestly, Coach is very similar to Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc. Coach has a difficult and strong personality, same as Mike, and both choose to be personal trainers, Coach training patrons at the gym and Mike training Sulley to be a Scarer.
Coach and Mike both have great confidence, to begin with, but it can easily be shattered if something goes wrong.
4 Aly - Elsa
Aly is Winston's new partner when he finishes police training and at first, she is incredibly cold with him. Like Elsa, Aly holds Winston at a distance because she doesn't want to become too close to her new partner and have him fall in love with her only to leave because it's unrequited.
Elsa holds her sister Anna away from her for her own protection and Aly does the same to Winston. Although eventually, the two become closer once Aly lets him in, and they are married by the series end.
3 Robby - Olaf
Robby is the quintessential nice and genuine guy who briefly dates Cece after she and Schmidt break up. Schmidt tries to hate him, but he finds it impossible because Robby is just too nice and doesn't let Schmidt's mean comments get to him.
Robby's lovable and optimistic nature makes him just like Olaf from Frozen as both are always very happy and bright and it takes a lot for them to be upset.
2 Reagan - Esmerelda
Reagan (Megan Fox) is introduced in later seasons as a roommate who replaces Jess while she's sequestered in jury duty. Reagan is very strong and direct, never backing down, which is a very similar personality type to Esmerelda in The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Both are strong and independent female characters who tend to make their own way through hard work and determination.
1 Sam - Prince Charming
Sam and Jess dated off and on throughout the show, but Jess ended up with Nick by the end of the series. Sam is seemingly a perfect guy for any potential romantic partner even though he has some emotional issues when he and Jess first start dating.
He's aloof but then is revealed to be a caring pediatrician. Although he and Jess don't work out in the end, he's still a great match for almost any partner, which is similar to the perceived perfection of Prince Charming in Cinderella.
