New Girl: 10 Questions About Cece Parekh, Answered | ScreenRant

From the very first episode of New Girl, the series introduced most of the major players that would be a part of the show for its seven-season run. One of those is Cece. Best friend to Jess, the two grew up together in Portland and are as close as ever as adults.

Cece begins her time on the show as the straight player in a room full of comedic personalities, but the audience quickly discovers that Cece is just as likable, weird, and funny as the rest of the group. She becomes a mother and businesswoman by the time the show comes to an end, but there is a lot that fans might have missed about her during the 146 episodes.

10 What Was Cece's Original Surname?

Cece's last name isn't mentioned in the series until the second season when she attends an Indian Singles convention. Prior to that, fans might have thought her name was different.

That's because promotional materials on the official website for the show actually listed the character as Cece Meyer. The surname was never used in the show, but fans still used it online until her name was officially revealed. Parekh not only celebrates the Indian heritage of actress Hannah Simone but becomes a part of the show when Cece's character arc begins to explore that heritage.

9 What Is Her Zodiac Sign?

Technically, Cece's official birthdate isn't mentioned during the show. If fans are curious about it and attempt to look it up anywhere online, they'll find most wikis including the character list her birthday as October 23. That's because the episode featuring her birthday, "Models," originally aired on that day.

If that is her birthday, seemingly accepted by the New Girl fandom overall, that would mean Cece was born on the last day of Libra season. She's a Libra on the cusp of becoming a Scorpio. That's pretty fitting since Libras are all about balance and fitting in, but Scorpios can come across as very aggressive. Cece has the traits of both zodiac signs, as well as the Libra tendency to charm everyone she meets.

8 Which Grandmother Does Cece Take Schmidt To Visit?

At the end of the first season, while Schmidt and Cece are trying to work out their relationship when he can't get physical with her, she takes him to an assisted living facility to visit her grandmother. Fans might wonder, given how close the two are and the tension with her own mother, if that grandmother is her mother's or father's mother.

Cece references her grandmother as "dadi" before Schmidt calls her "bubby," which gives the audience a hint. In Hindi, maternal grandmothers are "nani" while paternal grandmothers are "dadi." That would make the grandmother she's especially close to her late father's mother.

7 How Many Episodes Does Cece Appear?

Hannah Simone, despite not appearing in the opening credit sequence with Jess' theme song, is credited as a series regular for the entire run of the show. She doesn't appear in all 146 episodes though.

Simone, as Cece, only misses six episodes in the entire series. Half of those episodes are in season one of New Girl: "Wedding," "Bells," and "The Story Of The 50." She misses "Chicago" and "Neighbors" in the second season as well as "The Box" in the third, but doesn't miss out on any episodes from season four until the very end of the series.

6 What Did The Original Pilot Script Have Her Interested In Pursuing?

Before the series became known as New Girl, the pilot script painted a slightly different picture of what the show would be. Coach was a bit different of a character, the story took place in New York, and Cece had one fascinating interest outside of modeling.

When Cece meets Jess' new roommates in the original script, the conversation turns to her career. Cece says she works in, "mostly print right now," just as she does in the pilot as it aired. She also adds an interesting tidbit, however, in that she's saving money to go to school for video game design. That piece of information never made it into the pilot, but it certainly would have made a very different path for Cece.

5 What Is Cece's Bed Time?

With Schmidt working 80 hours a week sometimes, Nick bartending, and Winston hosting a late-night radio show for a while, no one in the loft keeps the same sleep schedule. Add late-night games of True American and Cece's club appearances for networking to the mix, and Jess has friends who are all over the place. Cece does, however, have a self-imposed bedtime.

The character reveals that "baby needs her rest," in a fictional magazine interview that was originally used as promotional material for the show. Cece absolutely has to be in bed by 3:00 AM in order to get a few hours of rest.

4 What Comfort Food Does Jess Usually Provide Cece?

When Elizabeth Meriwether first pitched the show, she had some very specific ideas about the characters that helped paint a picture of their personalities. One of the details she includes in her original pitch is just what comfort food Jess provides Cece in her moment of need.

Throughout the show, fans see Jess and Cece indulge in trail mix, cheese, ice cream, and cake when Cece turns to Jess for help. None of those are in the pitch. Instead, Meriwether makes note that Jess definitely doesn't bring Cece a pint of ice cream when she's down but, "a single dinner roll." Bread as comfort food is an unusual choice, but one that definitely would have worked.

3 How Did Cece And Jess Meet?

Jess and Cece have been friends for most of their lives by the time New Girl takes place. Though Cece mentions in an argument between the two in the episode "Secrets" that they knew each other when they were 10, that is contradicted by the show actually having a flashback of when the two first meet, adding to the handful of continuity errors in the series.

Jess comes across Cece in the library when the two are in middle school. Cece is trying to study but is clearly upset, so Jess offers her help. During their conversation, Cece reveals that her dad recently died, and she has trouble concentrating as a result. That means the two actually meet when Cece and Jess are 12 as Cece references that age as the year she lost her dad.

2 Did Cece Cheat Before Schmidt?

One of the most heartbreaking moments in the show happens when Cece finds out that Schmidt has been cheating on her with Elizabeth. When she thinks it's Nick cheating on Jess, she immediately punches him. When Spencer cheats on Jess, there's no love lost from Cece. She has a very strict no-tolerance policy for cheaters.

That's why it's strange to discover that she's cheated herself. When Cece and Jess get into an argument at the end of the first season, she reveals she spent the holidays with a guy who "might be an arms dealer" in St. Barts. That would have been during the time that she was dating Kyle as the audience sees her dating him during the time period between Christmas and Valentine's Day.

1 What Real-Life Nod To Hannah Simone Is Used In One Of Cece's Scenes?

The New Girl writers like to include nods to other pop culture properties as well as real-life events in the lines of the show. One nod to Hannah Simone's real life comes from a line from Jess during an argument.

When Jess asserts that modeling can't be that hard because, "it's not like you work at the U.N. or something," it's a sneaky nod to Simone's work in real life. Though Simone has been a performer since she was a kid with jobs in television, radio, and modeling, she has a degree in International Relations and Political Science, which led to her working for the United Nations before she worked in the talk show circuit.
