Patty Jenkins Thanks Cheetah Creator Left Out Of Wonder Woman 1984 Credits

Patty Jenkins thanks the Cheetah creator left out of the Wonder Woman 1984 credits. The sequel to 2017's Wonder Woman featured the introduction of Kristin Wiig as the insecure Barbara Ann Minerva, whose only wish was to be more like her friend Diana Prince. Once Barbara's wish is granted, she desires even more strength and eventually transforming into the powerful villain Cheetah. The character of Barbara/Cheetah goes way back in the history of DC Comics. Cheetah was created back in 1943 by William Moulton Marston.

Cheetah is one of Wonder Woman's earliest and most iconic foes. The character's appearance has changed a bit over the years, but Liam Sharp's design has been used in comics since 2016. Wonder Woman 1984 clearly based Kristen Wiig's villain on Sharp's design, yet the artist didn't get credit for his contribution in the movie. Sharp recently expressed his disappointment with not being included in Wonder Woman 1984's credits but was happy to see fellow collaborators like Greg Rucka and Nicola Scott get credit.

Now, Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins has acknowledged the oversight. Jenkins revealed that Sharp was supposed to be included in the credits but somehow was left off when the credits were made. Check out Jenkins' sweet thank you to Sharp below:

The failure to acknowledge Sharp in the credits was unfortunate, but it's great that Jenkins acknowledged the error publicly on social media and thanked Sharp for his work on designing the most current comics version of Cheetah. It's important to properly credit artists who helped bring such a fascinating character like Cheetah to life in the comics, but it's good to know that Jenkins had meant to credit Sharp from the start.

Barbara/Cheetah's live-action debut was one of the most interesting parts of Wonder Woman 1984, and Patty Jenkins has stated that Wonder Woman 3 could feature Kristin Wiig's return as Cheetah. Wiig did a great job making the transition from the timid Barbara jealous of Diana to the confident and powerful Cheetah seamless. It would be interesting to see more of the dynamic in the comics between Wonder Woman and Cheetah further explored on the big screen. Hopefully Sharp's name can be added to the Wonder Woman 1984 credits now. There's a lot of potential for Cheetah to return in future Wonder Woman movies and clash with Wonder Woman once more. A good story and compelling villains are all fans can wish for Wonder Woman 3 and beyond.
