When The Bachelorette contestant Zac Clark revealed to Tayshia Adams his past struggles with addiction, there was a key player in his story – the bank teller who called Zac's father when he tried to cash forged checks. It was because of the caring PNC Bank employee that Zac didn't return to the streets and instead turned his life around. Recently, in a Hallmark-worthy moment, Zac was reunited with his "angel," Rhonda Jackson.
During a one-on-one date with Tayshia, Zac, 36, opened up about his darkest days. Zac Clark's dependency on drugs began shortly after college while recovering from a brain tumor surgery. He started taking prescription drugs like Adderall, and eventually advanced to morphine and OxyContin. Zac soon found himself desperate to get his hands on more and stole a handful of checks from his father in an attempt to acquire extra cash. But things didn't go according to plan. Bank teller Rhonda Jackson, upon realizing the checks were forged, called Zac's father instead of the police. His father, who had been searching for his boy for several days, rushed to the bank before Zac could run away. Four and a half months were spent in a treatment facility and now, Zac runs his own addiction treatment center in New York called Release Recovery.
Since that day in August 2011, Zac has remained grateful to Rhonda for giving him the chance to get on the right path. Earlier this month, Zac tracked his "hero" down and shared the touching experience on Instagram. Turns out, Rhonda wasn't too hard to find – she still works at the same PNC Bank in Camden, New Jersey. Zac said, "Rhonda didn't know me, didn't care what I looked like and didn't judge me. She just knew that I needed help as I tried to cash a forged check so I could get some quick money and keep getting high." After all these years, Rhonda didn't forget Zac either. He added, "She remembered the day vividly and we hugged like we had known each other forever. In a world that is filled seemingly with so much apathy, Rhonda Jackson taught me a valuable life lesson. Always treat people with love, always believe and always do the right thing. You never know whose life you might be saving. Thank you, Rhonda, for saving my life. There are no coincidences...." Spoilers for The Bachelorette season 16 ahead!
Like Rhonda, Tayshia was sympathetic and non-judgmental toward Zac as he reflected on his past. His vulnerability and strength are why he's one of the final three men standing, along with Brendan Morais and Ivan Hall. If blogger Reality Steve's sources are correct, Zac receives Tayshia's final rose.
Though rumors are swirling that the relationship doesn't last and that Tayshia is now rekindling a romance with Brendan, Zac gave The Bachelorette experience his all. Just as he came out of addiction a better man, he'll most likely do the same following this next (alleged) hardship.
The Bachelorette airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 pm ET on ABC.
