Pokémon GO: New Genesect Moveset & More Coming Soon Datamine Reveals

A new moveset for Genesect and a holiday-themed round of costumes and avatar poses are making their way to Pokémon GO, as discovered by recent datamining. The online mobile game has made some major recent announcements, including an upcoming holiday event. The event, which lasts from December 22 through December 31, will boost wild ice-type Pokémon and add the ice cream-inspired Vanillite to the game.

It was also revealed that Niantic's popular multiplayer game was among five $1-billion-plus mobile games this year. Other titles included PUBG Mobile and Honor of Kings, with Pokémon GO being the third highest-grossing mobile title of 2020 so far. In total, Pokémon GO generated $1.2 billion in annual revenue. Financials aside, it appears that new content may be headed to the game in the near future.

As reported by Pokémon GO Hub, a new datamining round-up reveals that a new moveset for Genesect, winter-themed costumes, and new collection challenges are coming to the game sometime soon. In the mainline series, Genesect's primary move, Techno Blast, is dependent on what type of item the Pokémon is holding. It seems that, in the mobile game, there will be different forms of Genesect and that, for Techno Blast, there will be five separate variations of the move.

Regarding the holiday-themed costumes, Screen Rant has already reported that Pikachu, Delibird, and Cubchoo will be getting festive outfits. However, it's been found that Slowpoke, Slowbro, Pichu, and Raichu will receive winter costumes, as well. New clothes, such as sweaters and boots, and avatar poses have been datamined. Several new collection challenges have been datamined, too, which will be based on different regions such as Kalos, Unova, and Sinnoh.

When the news surrounding the winter-themed costumes initially broke, it was a bit disappointing to see that only three Pokémon were receiving costumes. However, it seems that's not the case. Although it looks like only a handful of Pokémon are getting them, it's a relief to see that more than three Pokémon will be able to don festive attire. Fans knew that the holiday event would entail new costumes, but it's great to have a bit more clarity on what all is exactly coming to the game.

Genesect's new moveset seems promising, as well. It's fun to see that Niantic is paying homage to the mainline installments by incorporating its own version of Techno Blast. Although its functionality seems a bit different, it's all the more interesting for trying something new. It's a nice way for Pokémon GO to reference the main games without replicating the exact same thing. It's also nice to see that Niantic wants to pay homage to each region through new collection challenges. Not much about them is known, but it will be fun to have different region-themed challenges for players to complete.
