The Office: 10 Questionable Life Decisions Dwight Made

Dwight Schrute will always be remembered for being one of the weirdest but also funniest characters on television. While Dwight starts out being mostly obnoxious but hilarious, fans grew to actually care about him over time.

Dwight becomes surprisingly mature and goes through a lot of character growth, and he even gets the job of manager in the end. However, before he learned how to be a more professional, kind person, he made a lot of bad life decisions that impacted himself and others around him.

10 Pursued a relationship with Esther

The Office was considering doing a spin-off series that featured Dwight called “The Farm.” In fact, the episode from season nine with the same title was a backdoor pilot for the show that never came to be.

It seems like this relationship was meant to be part of that show, but it would have been a terrible relationship for Dwight. These two were mismatched, and it seemed to come out of nowhere.

9 Created a disturbing invention related to horses

Dwight isn’t exactly an animal activist. He’s a farmer, but he has a lot less respect for his animals than most farmers do. So, when he decided to create an invention that was able to harvest meat from horses while keeping them alive, it was rather disturbing. Not only was this kind of messed up, but it was also a terrible idea.

There’s no way that this invention would make him any money, and he has focused his energy somewhere else.

8 His confusing relationship with Isabel

Dwight meets Isabel, Pam’s close friend, at Jim and Pam’s wedding. They hook up, but for some reason, she’s more interested in him than he is in her.

But, then when they meet again later on at the arcade/bar, Dwight is interested in her once again as he considers her a better candidate for carrying his child than Angela. Dwight’s inability to decide whether or not he liked Isabel was weird, and it also seemed like a poor life choice.

7 Tried to take over Michael’s job

At the beginning of the series, Dwight spends most of his energy trying to be friends with Michael while also trying to get his job. He wants to be Regional Manager, so he is willing to kiss up to Michael in hopes that he will someday be promoted.

While wanting to move up in the company wasn’t a bad thing, he went about things in some very unprofessional ways that ended up hurting his career. He tried to go behind Micahel’s back and tell Jan about Michael’s behavior, and this hurt his professional relationship with Jan and with Michael.

6 Opened a bed and breakfast

One of the most entertaining Dwight episodes is the one when Jim and Pam go to visit his beet farm because he’s running a bed and breakfast.

It’s definitely fun to watch because fans got a more in-depth view of Dwight’s life and what Schrute Farms was like. While Jim and Pam gave him a good review, the truth is that it wasn’t a smart business decision for him to open this place up. It wasn’t cute enough, and Mose running around would make anyone uncomfortable.

5 Decided to keep the farm with his siblings

Another word decision Dwight made was when he and his two siblings decided to run the farm together in order to keep the land. This was another Dwight storyline that was included to create the back door pilot that never got picked up.

Because of this, the storyline didn’t make a lot of sense, and it also seemed like a bad decision on Dwight’s part. If he was committed still to his job at Dunder Mifflin, there’s no way he could have done both things at once.

4 Created a baby contract with Angela

After Jim and Pam have Cece, Dwight is convinced that having a baby will help in business. So, while they aren’t in a relationship at the time, Anglea and Dwight decide to create a contract and make a baby together.

This doesn’t seem legal in the first place, and the mediator says there’s no way he can enforce some parts of the contract. But, beyond this, it was also questionable for Dwight’s life. Having a child for business reasons with someone you’re not dating is never a good idea.

3 Let himself be fired over Angela

At the beginning of Dwight and Angela’s relationship, Angela insists on keeping their romance secret from their employees. However, she takes things way too far when she lets Dwight take the fall for taking the documents to corporate.

Because he wants to respect her wishes, he gets fired when he explains the reason he went to New York. He should have saved his job and career because it meant so much to him.

2 Tried to trick Angela into marrying him

When Angela is dating Andy, she finally agrees to let their wedding ceremony take place at Schrute Farms. While Dwight is showing him around the location, he brings in someone to conduct a wedding ceremony in German, and Angela doesn’t realize that this is happening.

It was weird and sneaky, and trying to trick someone into marrying you isn’t legal or advisable. This plan was never going to work.

1 Brought multiple weapons into the office

Dwight does a lot of things throughout the series that should have gotten him fired, but because it’s a comedy, he gets away with them. While he did many questionable things at work such as cutting the face-off of the CPR dummy, the most questionable was when he brought multiple weapons into work, including a loaded gun.

This was definitely not allowed, and he should have been fired, not just demoted when it accidentally went off.
