Batwoman Season 2 Footage Shows Ryan Wilder's First Night On The Job

Exciting new footage from the second season of Batwoman shows Ryan Wilder’s first night on the job as the titular masked vigilante. Javicia Leslie has stepped into the Batwoman role, replacing both Ruby Rose and her character Kate Kane. The new season is set to premiere on the CW on January 17th.

Rose sent shockwaves through the Arrowverse when she announced last year that she was leaving the show following the first season. Instead of replacing Rose with another Kate Kane, the production decided to write an entirely new role for DC newcomer Leslie. Ryan Wilder is reportedly very different from Kate Kane, and a casting notice for the character gave some clues as to how they will differ. Most of the plot details are still unknown, though some familiar faces are set to return, such as Kate Kane’s villainous sister Alice, played by Rachel Skarsten, and Camrus Johnson’s Luke Fox.

USA Today released an interview with Javicia Leslie, which also included clips from the show’s new season. Some of the footage is from the latest trailer, but it also offers a fresh look at Ryan Wilder’s first night on the job as Batwoman. Fans can see Ryan fighting two perpetrators in an alley as she dodges bullets and tries to figure out how the Batwoman suit works. One perpetrator notices her struggling with her new technology and mocks her, saying, “What is this? Some wannabe?” Ryan then pushes a button that sends a projectile into the man’s leg. As he crumbles to the ground, Ryan says, “Sorry! Legit didn’t mean that.” The clip is a great demonstration of how the narrative will explore Ryan finding her bearings within her new role as Batwoman, as well as maintaining a slightly comedic tone.

The new footage is one of many teasers that the network has released ahead of the second season’s premiere, including a recent poster that showed a different aesthetic look for Leslie’s character. The new season will reportedly explore Ryan Wilder’s journey of assuming her role as Batwoman, and will also spend a considerable amount of time on the mystery of Kate’s disappearance, as the first episode is actually titled “What Happened to Kate Kane?”

With the release of the new Batwoman season right around the corner, fans are understandably eager for any glimpse of the character. It’s exciting to have both a new Batwoman and the brand new character of Ryan Wilder, who only recently made her debut in the comics. If there’s one thing that this footage reveals, it’s that Javicia Leslie is already assuming her superhero status quite well.
