Although it would likely be an incredibly violent sight rendered with ray tracing and next-gen graphics, Grand Theft Auto 6 should definitely include a STIHL GTA 26 handheld pruner or some sort of easily-carried chainsaw equivalent, especially if the game is set in Vice City. The location, release date, and even any announcement about GTA 6 has yet to be revealed from developer Rockstar Games, but thanks to a plethora of alleged leaks, rumors, and fan expectations, many players are finding it hard not to hype themselves up about it anyway.
Most recently, an easter egg in GTA Online seems to hint that the next game in franchise could return to Vice City, but (like much of the Vice City rumors and mentions in the past) it is likely fans are reading a little too much into things. While it's perfectly possible (and even likely) that Rockstar could make Grand Theft Auto 6's location one they have done before, it is also in the realm of possibility that the company is planning on taking players somewhere completely new. If GTA 6 does return to Vice City, however, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City's chainsaw definitely needs to reappear in some fashion.
There were multiple elements of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City which were directly ripped from 1980's-era gangster films, and that includes its selection of weapons. The chainsaw in Vice City might be one of the game's most blatant easter eggs, as it is found in a bloody bathroom in an apartment complex not unlike the one featured in Scarface's iconic scene. Unlike Tony Montana, however, Tommy Vercetti has the chance the wield the chainsaw himself, and although it can be a clunky and bloody weapon, it is also an enjoyable one.
With improved graphics and detail, it's undeniable that it would be an incredibly violent sight watching a theoretically female GTA 6 protagonist carving through enemies and pedestrians with a chainsaw, but for longtime Grand Theft Auto fans it would also be an incredibly cathartic experience. Games like Dead Rising have shown that chainsaws (especially handheld ones like the STIHL GTA 26 or some fictional equivalent) can be extremely entertaining tools to utilize in a video game, and Rockstar Games has long proven they are not averse to controversial scenes or weapons in their titles.
Unfortunately, it has been a long time since chainsaws of any sort made an appearance as a usable weapon in a GTA game. Made available first in Vice City, the chainsaw also appeared in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, but has been notable absent from Grand Theft Auto 4 and Grand Theft Auto 5. Since it was one of the most iconic weapons from GTA's earlier 3D entries, it is past time for the chainsaw to return.
A handheld saw like the STIHL GTA 26 pruner makes the most sense, especially if GTA 6 plans on embracing the realism aspect of the franchise which Grand Theft Autos 4 & 5 have begun to lean more strongly towards. It is lightweight enough to hold and swing in one hand while also being easy to carry over long distances while running from the police. The STIHL model even shares the same name as the franchise's acronym! It may be too much (and too violent) of an ask for Rockstar to include a real, usable chainsaw in Grand Theft Auto 6, but, especially if the game is set in Vice City, it would make for a great callback.
