NFL star Aaron Rodgers will fill in as a guest host on Jeopardy!. Last week, the trivia game show aired longtime host Alex Trebek’s final episode. Back in November, after pushing through pain to film his final Jeopardy episodes, Trebek passed away peacefully at the age of 80. On January 11, Jeopardy! champion Ken Jennings made his debut as the first of a series of temporary guest hosts and declared that Trebek is irreplaceable. Now it's been revealed who is next in line to stand behind the podium.
Per TVLine, Green Bay Packers quarterback Rodgers will serve as an interim host on Jeopardy!. Expected to host after the end of the playoffs, Rodgers is familiar with the trivia show, as he emerged the victor of Celebrity Jeopardy! in 2015. Recalling his interaction with Trebek, Rodgers stated, “It’s safe to say I was starstruck. I was so excited, trying to keep it together and act like it wasn’t the huge deal that it was to me on the inside.” At this time, it remains to be seen when Rodgers’ Jeopardy! episodes will air. Reportedly, Katie Couric has also been tapped to take over hosting duties for one week of Jeopardy!.
Of course, it’s still unclear who will permanently fill Trebek’s large shoes as the permanent host of Jeopardy!. Indeed, Trebek had a profound impact on audience members, contestants, and fans, and locking down his successor is no easy feat. However, Rodgers had a memorable run as a contestant on Jeopardy! and will offer viewers a fresh take as the host on the iconic trivia game show.
