A Call of Duty Warzone player was able to snag a win in the Gulag while using a flute and a recorder as his controller. Streamer DeanoBeano has release multiple clips of himself getting better and better at using his mundane instruments as instruments of virtual war. His skills seem to be improving with each clip resulting in some very entertaining footage from his stream. In each clip, he can barely contain his excitement as each clip is increasingly ridiculous in what he has accomplished while using his flute as his weapon.
DeanoBeano has honed his skills of musical warfare first through small scale public matches in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Trick shots with snipers seem to be what he has gotten best at as multiple clips see him landing spin shots on other players while playing on the Nuketown '84 map. He first gained fame after landing a sniper shot while playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare while using a drum set as his controller.
An article posted by Eurogamer details a recent clip of DeanoBeano clutching a Gulag win on the new Call of Duty Warzone Gulag map, Rebirth Island using a recorder as his controller. This map is a shooting range mock-up of the classic Nuketown map. He is able to move into the center of the map and let loose a burst of assault rifle fire through some plywood towards his opponent landing himself the win.
The article also details how DeanoBeano was able to hook his recorder up to the controller setup on his PC. He explains that he programmed the setup so that different notes he plays on his flute feed into the recorder, triggering different controller functions such as shooting, directional movements, and jumping. Through extensive practice, he has become quite proficient in the art of musical warfare.
This is not the first time that gamers have substituted instruments for controllers to achieve ridiculous feats worthy of video game legend. Back in July, YouTuber Jachael123 used a piano keyboard to playthrough Minecraft's Survival mode and even slay the game's endgame boss, the mighty Ender Dragon. Both musical warriors utilized the MIDI keyboard for their epic accomplishments. Back in 2015, a Destiny player used a Rock Band drumkit to solo the raid boss known as Crota. Destiny raids are elaborate multi-part puzzle missions steeped in boss fights and heavy combat that are meant to be played with a full fireteam of six players. These players, alongside Warzone's DeanoBeano, are sure to go down in history as true jukebox heroes.
