Loki: 10 Things To Remember Before Starting The Show | ScreenRant

One of the many new Disney+ shows to debut in 2021 is Loki, starring everyone's favorite God of Mischief, Tom Hiddleston who, in Avengers: Endgame, escaped in the middle of being apprehended by The Avengers. Bringing Loki from 2012 to the modern-day could present some confusing issues for fans who might have forgotten some elements of Loki's journey throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The show is currently set to debut in May, but there are some other shows that will tide fans over until then. Loki started off as a villain before reconnecting with Thor in Thor: Ragnarok and showing that he is not so bad after all. With the potential for space and time travel, it's important to remember some key facts before starting the show.

10 Loki Is The God Of Mischief

Throughout the MCU fans have known Loki to betray Thor over and over again and have seen Loki use his powers on many occasions. It is key to remember that Loki is not only a god with abilities who resented Thor, but he is still the God of Mischief.

Fans can bet that he will more than likely betray anyone that seems like they are on his side. Loki is out for himself and even though he may appear to be allied with certain characters throughout the show, he can turn on them in an instant.

9 This Is Loki From Avengers: Assembled

Back in Avengers: Endgame fans saw Loki from 2012 disappear with the tesseract. This means that this isn't Loki being resurrected after Thanos killed him, but this is Loki before he has gone through everything the 'Endgame-Loki' went through after Avengers: Assemble.

This means he never took over the throne from Odin, he never became closer with Thor as he did over the events of Thor: Ragnarok and he never experienced the battle with the Dark elves where his mother Frigga was killed. Frigga's death impacted Loki in a large way, and this Loki is unaware of her death.

8 The Series Is Set After 'Avengers: Endgame'

Even though the Loki fans will see is Loki from 2012, the official description states that the series is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame. This tells fans that there will be a time travel element to the show which may explain the changing letters in the trailer for the series.

The big question is, if there is time travel involved, how will this tie into the time-travel theory from Avengers: Endgame that changing the past doesn't change the future as the former present becomes the past, which now can't be changed by the new future? Confused? Hopefully, Loki will smooth over some bumps.

7 Loki Still Has The Tesseract

When fans saw Loki disappear in the lobby of Stark Tower, he was still holding the tesseract when he opened the portal. The first clip in the trailer shows Loki waking up on a desert in an unknown location and planet.

Keep in mind that Loki was able to conjure up the Tesseract in Avengers: Infinity War out of nothing, even though he is not holding it he could still have it in his possession (unless finding the Tesseract is going to be part of the story).

6 Loki Will Be Captured By The TVA

In the trailer, Owen Wilson seemingly appears as Mr. Mobius of the TVA, or Time Variance Authority. The TVA is essentially a group of time-police who may catch on to Loki's adventures across multiple timelines. This also begs the question of how much, that happened in the MCU is going to change?

In the trailer, Loki mentions Thor but also Heimdall who is, as far as Loki is aware, still alive. Could this be a timeline where Heimdall was never killed? This theory is also made more intriguing by the Bifrost, which seemingly catches Loki in mid-air as he jumps from the plane.

5 Odin Could Still Be Alive

Again, this point depends largely on the time-traveling rules and specific timelines that Marvel set out in the show, but since this is a 2012 Loki, he has not yet cast his spell on Odin and banished him to Earth. Loki also potentially never caused Ragnarok, so Asgard may still be around.

But if changing the past doesn't change the future, then does Loki's absence from the original timeline make any difference to phases 2 and 3 of the MCU? If it does, then Anthony Hopkins could still be roaming around Asgard as King.

4 'Loki' Will Be A Crime Thriller

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige gave the information on all the new Disney+ shows, one of which was, of course, Loki, and stated the following: "We put Loki in the center of his own crime thriller. If that sounds a little unusual, confusing, don't worry. Loki's just as confused."

Remember that a heist movie, such as Ant-Man, and a crime movie can be two different things. Loki might be on the run from the TVA, as he is technically from another timeline.

3 Loki Is Still Working For Thanos

Another interesting point that comes to mind when realizing that this is 2012 Loki, is that he is still a minion for Thanos. After his first 'death,' Loki was tasked with retrieving the Tesseract for Thanos, who may or may not be alive in the show's timeline depending on the show's time travel rules.

It is highly doubtful that Thanos will make an appearance, as it seems that his chapter of the MCU is finished, but never say never. Marvel could easily throw in a quick snippet of Loki opening a portal to Titan where he sees Thanos before quickly shutting the portal again.

2 Loki Is A Frost-Giant

This is a characteristic of Loki's that has scarcely been mentioned since the first Thor movie. But it remains true that Loki is naturally a frost giant. Will this come in to play or have any impact on the show's series? Probably not, but it remains to be seen.

Given that it hasn't been mentioned since 2011, it seems unlikely that Marvel would bring up this point unless it impacted the story.

1 'Loki' Will Connect To 'Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse Of Madness'

One of Kevin Feige's other comments surprised fans when he revealed that the series will connect to another upcoming Marvel movie. Speaking to Bloomberg, Feige revealed that Loki will connect to Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse Of Madness.

Until recently, the Marvel movies only influenced, but never mentioned, the TV shows such as Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The TV show's never influenced the movies. It seems now the latter is occurring more, as the events of Loki on Disney+ could influence or be at least mentioned in the Doctor Strange sequel.
