Whitman has a long list of voice credits in the worlds of television, film, and even video games. Her live-action career is a bit shorter but still loaded with impressive work. To truly pick out the best of her work, only projects with several thousand IMDb ratings are included.

10 The DUFF (6.5)

The thing about a lot of Mae Whitman's career is that she has often been a supporting star in many of her movie roles. That changed with 2015's The DUFF, which put her front and center as Bianca Piper, the titular "DUFF," which stands for "Designated Ugly Fat Friend."

The concept of the film sees Bianca team with her jock friend to make her more desirable as she helps him pass his classes but of course, they fall for each other. It doesn't tread on new ground but works well due to the comedic efforts of Whitman. The supporting cast of Bella Thorne, Robbie Amell, Allison Janney, and Ken Jeong certainly help.

9 Independence Day (7.0)

As noted, the career of Mae Whitman dates back quite far and she got one of her biggest opportunities in 1996. That's when she, still not even 10-years-old at the time, landed a role in Independence Day. The sci-fi blockbuster was the highest-grossing film of that year.

The Roland Emmerich classic deals with aliens coming to invade Earth and how various groups deal with it from survival to fighting back. Will Smith and Bill Pullman led the cast. Meanwhile, Whitman appeared as Patricia Whitmore, the young daughter of Pullman's President Thomas J. Whitmore.

8 Web Therapy (7.4)

Figuring out how to rate Web Therapy is kind of difficult. The show, which was created by Lisa Kudrow who also starred, started out as a web series in 2008. That run spanned over 100 episodes and that's the one that scored a 7.4 rating on IMDb.

However, the show was eventually aired on Showtime for 44 episodes and that version scored 6.6. Regardless, Whitman appeared on both as Blair Yellin, one half of a couple (the other half played by Darren Criss). Together, they go to Kudrow's Fiona Wallice for therapy.

7 Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (7.5)

Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim vs. The World boasted one of the best casts in history. Based on the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels, Whitman joined Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anna Kendrick, Brie Larson, Chris Evans, and more in this delightful movie.

The plot sees Scott date Ramona Flowers but he must defeat her evil exes to do so. Whitman had a role as one of the exes, Roxy Richter, who is described as a lesbian ninja. The 2010 film has become a cult classic and is beloved for how it adapts the comics. The cast, including Whitman, recently reunited for a Zoom table read.

6 Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life (7.7)

For the most part, television shows where Mae Whitman only showed up in a single episode are excluded from this list. It's just an insignificant piece of a lengthy series. However, that's not the case for 2016's Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Whitman is in one episode but there are only four total.

That means she was in at least a quarter of the miniseries. This was a Netflix revival set a decade after the events of the original Gilmore Girls series, which each episode covering a different season in a year. Whitman had a guest-starring role as a girl named Marcy in the "Spring" episode.

5 Good Girls (7.8)

After years of supporting roles, Mae Whitman scored a lead role on a new hit series. Good Girls premiered in 2018 and is set to air its fourth season soon. The show starts out by following three desperate mothers who decide to rob a store to make some quick money.

They find out that the money they took belonged to a gangster. He puts them to work to make back the money, sending them down some very dark paths. Whitman stars as Annie Marks, while her associates are her sister Beth Boland (Christina Hendricks) and their friend Ruby Hill (Retta).

4 The Perks Of Being A Wallflower (8.0)

Her performance in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World was one of the earliest cases of Mae Whitman taking on more mature roles. That certainly continued with 2012's The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which is widely considered one of the best coming-of-age films ever crafted.

Based on a novel of the same name, the movie focuses on an introverted freshman who befriends two seniors that help him break out of his shell. Things ultimately reach some serious emotional beats. Whitman played Mary Elizabeth, a girl who starts to date the protagonist Charlie Kelmeckis.

3 Parenthood (8.2)

This has to be the most famous role for Mae Whitman. She was one of the main characters on the Parenthood television series that ran from 2010 through 2015. It followed the four Braverman siblings and the very different families that each of them has.

Appearing in all 103 episodes, Whitman played Amber Holt. She was the rebellious teenage daughter of Sarah Braverman (Lauren Graham) who had one of the best arcs on the show. Amber went through some serious hardships but grew as a person and was one of the most beloved characters by the end.

2 In Treatment (8.3)

Soon before her starring role on Parenthood, Mae Whitman landed a guest role on HBO's In Treatment. That series ran from 2008 until 2010 and featured over 100 episodes. It was recently announced that it would return for a new season in 2021.

For a handful of episodes, Mae Whitman showed up as Rosie Weston, the teenage daughter of Paul (Gabriel Byrne, the show's protagonist) and Kate (Michelle Forbes). The show itself centered on Paul, a psychotherapist who deals with his patients as well as goes to see his own therapist each week.

1 Arrested Development (8.7)

For most people, the first time they really noticed Mae Whitman was on the Fox sitcom Arrested Development. The show premiered in 2003 and was canceled in 2006 before being brought back for two new seasons on Netflix between 2013 and 2019.

Arrested Development focused on the Bluth family after the patriarch is imprisoned and his son Michael takes over the family affairs. The dysfunctional Bluths certainly don't make it easy. The hilarious series is often viewed as one of the best comedies in history. Whitman had a recurring role as Ann Veal, the on-again/off-again girlfriend of Michael's son George Michael Bluth.
