Minecraft YouTuber CallMeCarson Accused Of Grooming Minors

Carson King (better known CallMeCarson), Minecraft YouTuber and former Lunch Club member, has been accused of grooming underage girls who were members of his fan community. The allegations surfaced earlier this week, as two ex-Lunch Club members publicly claimed King admitted to engaging in sexual misconduct with minors online.

Allegedly, the YouTuber first addressed the impropriety in a conversation with his colleagues as early as last spring. The former Lunch Club members stated that for several weeks thereafter, their usually tight-knit union fell into "limbo." There was uncertainty about how to approach the situation or best respond considering the information they'd been given. Ultimately, CallMeCarson's supposed confession is what led to the group's decision to part ways.

On Monday, YouTube channel DramaAlert interviewed two former members of Lunch Club - Hugbox and Traves. Both spoke candidly, alleging Carson King reached out to them in March 2020 to discuss his past behaviors. According to Hugbox, King admitted to sexting with underage fans. Upon being asked why they and other members didn't come forward, Hugbox stated his silence was an effort to not get involved. In addition, the group was also led to believe King would cease engaging in such conduct. Despite the silence, Hugbox noted that attempts were made to subtly "warn" their mostly young audience of King's behavior. Another former member, Slimecicle, corroborated as much in a tweet this morning. Slimecicle stated that in early 2020, King spoke of exchanging nudes and sext messages with a girl he knew was 17. Believing a crime had been committed, Slimecicle claimed he alerted authorities and withdrew from Lunch Club.

One young woman has since come forward. In a lengthy Twitter thread, Miniborb accused CallMeCarson of grooming her when she was 17. Her post features a series of screenshots, showing the YouTuber make sexual advances, specifically asking for nude photographs. In one Discord DM sent from CallMeCarson to Miniborb in March 2019, he asked her when she'll turn 18. According to her, their exchanges began when she jokingly tweeted at him to be her boyfriend. Instead of responding publicly, he "went straight to [her] dms." Providing further proof, Miniborb posted screen-recordings of the messages taken directly from her phone and computer. As of writing, CallMeCarson hasn't responded to DramaAlert's request for a statement, nor has he addressed the claims publicly. Whether or not YouTube will issue a response of its own remains to be seen. Previous claims of other streaming platforms not being fit for purpose following similar accusations leveled at talent could compel YouTube to speak up in some form or fashion, however.

These are, of course, serious allegations that should not at all be taken lightly, and they're hopefully being properly investigated. Though Miniborb and the Lunch Club members who've publicly addressed the situation have received wide ranging support, there are those who have expressed doubt about the severity of CallMeCarson's alleged behavior.

Since the accuser was 17 at the time and the accused was two years her senior, questions have been raised about the extent to which the Carson King should be punished should any such steps occur. Some are arguing both were awkward teenagers, adding that the age of consent isn't 18 everywhere. However, it's worth noting the power imbalance too often seen in situations of this nature - this case, in particular, involves a famous YouTuber and a high school-aged fan. Regardless of how anyone spins the narrative, though, the law may very well have the final say.
