Pokémon GO Event Adds Shiny Miltank, Makes Gen 2 Pokémon More Common

In a continuing series of region-specific events, Johto will be the next region featured in the Pokémon GO Countdown Celebration; adding Shiny Miltank into the mix and making Gen 2 Pokémon more common. Fans of Pokémon: Gold & Silver will encounter some of their favorite Pokémon more frequently, and one of the most iconic Gen 2 Pokémon will have the chance to appear Shiny in Pokémon GO for the first time ever.

The Pokémon GO Countdown Celebration is leading up to the start of the Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto which is a massive in-game event that will feature all 150 original Pokémon from Red & Blue. During the event all 150 Kanto Pokémon will be able to appear Shiny, some of which haven't had their Shiny forms added to the game yet. Players can participate in this event for free, but Pokémon GO is also offering a ticketed experience. Players who purchase a ticket will be able to encounter every Kanto Pokémon in the wild, and will also have access to special research that will reward players with a Shiny Mew.

While it's unknown when or if Pokémon GO plans to hold these Tour events for every region, each one has been highlighted leading up to the event. Currently, Gen 3 Pokémon are being featured until January 26th when Johto will take the spotlight. During the Pokémon GO Johto event, recently announced on Twitter, Miltank's Shiny form will be added to the game and will remain even after the event has ended. Additionally, a handful of the 100 Johto Pokémon will appear in the wild including all three starters, Miltank, Aipom, and more.

Pokémon encountered in the wild aren't the only ones affected by the event. Gen 2 Pokémon will appear in raids, from hatched eggs, and as rewards for special field research tasks. The Johto event will begin at 10 a.m. on January 26th and end at 8 p.m. on January 31st. During this time, the Legendary dogs Entei, Raikou, and Suicune will appear in five-star raids and also have the possibility to appear Shiny.

It is always exciting when a new Shiny Pokémon is added to Pokémon GO as it gives players something new to hunt. However, it would be great if Pokémon GO decided to hold similar events for every region in which every Shiny form for that generation of Pokémon is made available. Nonetheless, the Kanto Tour is right around the corner, and fans should enjoy the chance catch a blue cow between now and then to celebrate.
