There are now Among Us valentines among us and they are so cleverly constructed that they have even caught the eye of the game's developer, InnerSloth. The massively successful indie title continues its relevance in pop culture despite calls from some that the game is dead.
Last Valentine's Day, Among Us was relatively unknown despite being on the market for a year and a half at the time. It was not until the COVID-19 pandemic gripped the world a short time later that the game's success skyrocketed. With its incredible rise thanks in large part to streaming platforms like Twitch, Among Us took on a life of its own and became so engrained in pop culture that even United States politicians used it to promote their messages. Now the legacy of the indie title takes a cheesy, romantic turn.
EloMoody posted a number of Among Us inspired valentines on Twitter, each with their own romantic pun relating to the game. All of the crewmate images EloMoody used to create these special valentines were originally designed and posted by fishbiss on Reddit. The resulting combination managed to gain the attention of the official Among Us Twitter account and it had nothing but good things to say.
This transformation into valentines is the latest creative iteration Among Us has seen since its rise to popularity in 2020. From short horror movies to a recreation of the opening from The Office and everything in between, Among Us fans always seem to find something else that the game can become. The inclusion of mods has only managed to add more content that fans can use when coming up with new pieces of unique fan art.
In just a few weeks, it will have been a year since the COVID-19 pandemic completely took hold of the world. Among Us did not become the behemoth it is today until a few months after that, but even so it is hard to separate the pandemic's grim legacy from the more delightful resurgence of the multiplayer game. For a time, Among Us became more than a game as it was a means for many to connect when they were forced to be apart. It is hard to imagine a world without Among Us at this point, which only shows how much can change in just a year. There is no way of knowing what the Among Us of 2021 will be like, but in the meantime it may be good to reflect on what this game actually meant to so many during a time of great uncertainty and pain.
