Actor Jesse Williams’ handsome Jackson Avery in the popular Shonda Rhimes medical drama Grey’s Anatomy is a kind, decent, intelligent, fan-favorite on the show. He is generally rational, and a quick-thinker, which often helps save lives, although he does act on impulses at times.

When Jackson realizes that the patient he, Teddy, and Cristina were trying to save was in fact the twenty-year-old shooter, he refuses to continue surgery. The gun violence in the shocking season 6 finale is still very fresh in the minds of the staff at Seattle Grace, evident in Jackson's emotional response to treating the shooter. Of course, Teddy reminds him about his Hippocratic oath but he storms out, unable to come to terms with saving the shooter's life.

It was Maggie who informed Jackson about Catherine's condition after learning about it from Meredith. And Jackson, however exasperated he might get with his mom at times, still loved her a lot.
