Pretty Little Liars: 10 Major Flaws Of The Show That Fans Chose To Ignore

I. Marlene King's complex crime-drama Freeform show, Pretty Little Liars, continues to speak volumes among various audiences. Originally intended for teens to enjoy, fans of even younger and older ages easily ate up the content the show had, which was mainly the changing dangerous stalker "A" character. Watching the main female characters tie themselves into their perennial web of lies was both anxiety-inducing, yet also an escape from the stresses of reality.

While the show will remain popular, loyal fans may have consumed it so easily to the point where they may not have noticed some flaws in the show, or just plain ignored them. From the minor mishaps from camera angles to the more major, eye-catching burdens among the characters, fans chose to dismiss those moments because of their undying love for the show.

10 The Over-Reacting

Gasp! Literally every time the girls open something or turn around, they gasp loudly to the point where it's actually funny.

In their defense, it's normal for anyone in real life to react shocked to the things the liars saw, like a dead body in the trunk or a look-alike mannequin, but the loud gasps are even funnier than the scream reactions. Fans of the show still talk about how hilarious it was (and still is) to see the friends automatically inhale super fast and loud at the sight of something surprising.

9 The Unrealistic Texting

Some may assume that this flaw means the simultaneous rings and beeps whenever the entire gang would receive a text from "A," but it is actually about the way the girls would text.

Fresh viewers continue to notice that, sometimes, whenever the liars texted, it looked extremely fake and overdone. It is understandable that people now text at the speed of light, but the liars would text far too fast to send an entire message to warn one of the others that they were near "A."

8 The Liars' Prison Record Was Basically Forgotten About

Although they were released and proven innocent from murder, the liars' jail time was basically forgotten about, and they certainly spent a lot of time in the slammer.

Applying to colleges, jobs, and overall moving on with their futures should have included some questioning regarding why they were all in jail for such a heinous crime. It appeared that all the women moved forward without ever having to explain why they were carelessly and wrongfully thrown in jail.

7 Unrealistic Career Timelines

The "five years forward" timeframe definitely had a lot of holes, as fans saw some of their favorite characters working high-end jobs in their early twenties.

Being that this is next to impossible to achieve right after college, the only one whose future made the most sense was Emily's. Bartending and finishing up her degree back in Rosewood matched a lot of other real-life students' and graduates' lives, while Hannah's, Aria's, and Spencer's working lives just didn't add up. It's not that twenty-somethings can't ever work in Washington D.C, or for a publishing company, or for a fashion company, but it's the way their work lives were portrayed that made no sense. How they paid their rent and for nights out just didn't add up.

6 School Nights Didn't Exist

It's good for students to spend time together after school, whether it be grabbing some coffee or hanging out at home. However, sometimes, the liars would be out late at night solving another one of A's mysteries when they clearly had classes the next morning.

Many questions could be raised with this, such as did their parents even think about how late they'd be out or where they were going? Were they even tired the next day after a night out? How did they get their homework done? Henceforth, the old saying "it's a school night" just did not exist in the show.

5 The Overly Bougie Outfits

Fashion is a great way to express oneself, but there are barely any real-life high schoolers that show up dressed to the nine as if they have a personal stylist at home.

Hannah of course takes home the gold for this flaw of the show because she would show up to school with expensive-looking blazers, necklaces, shoes, blouses, and hats as if she already owned a fashion company. However, all the girls seemed to jump on the fashionista train too whenever they'd show up with nice four-inch heels to classes too. Not many high school students wear stilettos to class in reality.

4 The Characters Didn't Look Their Ages

This flaw would always be obvious, but fans continued to let it go just because of how lovable the actors were.

With perfect complexions and cheekbones, and six-pack abs, of course, the main actors always appeared to be in their mid to late twenties. Portraying high school-aged students involves having familiar and younger "imperfections" as society would call them, such as more cherubic faces rather than Angelina Jolie-styled cheekbones on Spencer. A show like 13 Reasons Why actually nailed the age appearances better than PLL did.

3 How Red Coat Was Never Seen

It sounded absolutely preposterous when Mona told the liars that while she formed an alliance with Red Coat from Radley Sanitarium, she never actually saw who she was because she wore a mask.

A partnership can't be made without actually knowing what the plans are, and it would make sense that Red Coat must have talked to Mona while she was in Radley. Despite the obstacles that Mona was facing at the time, she must have heard Red Coat's voice at some point, or at least the height and shape of the person within the red coat. Once Mona revealed that she never knew who Red Coat was, dedicated fans questioned this for years, then obviously suppressed it to simply keep up with the show's fast pace.

2 The Liars Barely Did Their Homework

Being that school nights didn't seem to exist for the characters, there are a lot of unanswered questions, primarily just how Spencer kept her grades up when she wasn't seen doing homework that much.

From meeting in their respective bedrooms to talk about "A," or cry over their breakups, audiences rarely saw the girls studying for tests or figuring out trigonometry problems that typical high school students do. Nevertheless, since fans only ever wanted to see the drama unfold so they dismissed the normalcies of high school and what it really takes to achieve higher grade point averages.

1 It Was Always Sunny In Pennsylvania

The mild weather in the show made no sense at all being that it took place in a small town in Pennsylvania. As a matter of fact, it looks like it was set in a warm place, like Los Angeles (funny because most of the series was indeed shot in L.A)

The northeastern states of America see frigid winters with snow, rain, or just cloudy days in general when the seasons change, but the show almost always had sunny days. Walks through town, lunch dates outside, huddled meetings during school, whatever they may have been doing, the liars would be seen in direct sunlight. It would have been interesting if climate changes were explored throughout production because it may have made more of an impact than expected. After all, it would have been difficult for "A" to accomplish intense schemes in a blizzard.
