Two new scenes from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier have been revealed in official videos from Marvel, showing the comedic relationship between Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes. The series was initially scheduled to be the first MCU show to debut on Disney+, but those plans changed due to covid-19 production delays, pushing WandaVision to the first spot. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premieres on March 19.
After the unique sitcom stylings and more experimental structure of WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier looks to be more of a classic MCU story. There’s an evident Captain America pedigree present in the stark, military superhero aesthetic of the show, which makes sense given that both Sam and Bucky entered the MCU as supporting characters for Steve Rogers. After several films as sidekicks, they’ll finally get their shot as their own story's main characters.
Marvel Entertainment has released two new clips for the show in preparation for its premiere on March 19. The first shows Sam and Bucky discussing the “androids, aliens and wizards” they always seem to be fighting MCU and debating whether to go on a particular mission. The second clip seems to take place soon after and shows Sam and Bucky in the plane's cargo bay, bickering over their plan. Both scenes reflect the duo’s comedic energy, a key point of focus for the show’s marketing. Watch the new clips below.
Sam and Bucky will be facing off against Captain America: Civil War villain Baron Zemo in the new series, though how exactly he manages to escape and his exact plans remain to be seen. Zemo is a central villain in the Captain America comics, and he’s a great bad guy pick for a show that will heavily deal with Steve Rogers’s legacy. Sam and Bucky will both have to grapple with that legacy and how it affects each of them differently throughout the show.
After the positive critical and popular reception to WandaVision, expectations will be high going into The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Disney has had a string of major successes with its early original streaming content, with both WandaVision and The Mandalorian setting the precedent for more high-quality productions going forward. With luck, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier can keep that trend going when it premieres on Disney+ on March 19.
