Rudy Giuliani In Borat 2 Gets A Razzie Nomination For Worst Supporting Actor

Rudy Giuliani scored a Razzie nomination for Worst Supporting Actor in Borat Subsequent MovieFilm, the long-awaited follow-up Sacha Baron Cohen’s 2006 hit mockumentary Borat. While the original followed fictitious Kazakhstani journalist Borat Sagdiyev as he traveled the United States and documented real-life interactions with mostly everyday Americans, the Kazakh reporter's second film focuses on famous political figures such as Donald Trump, Mike Pence, and Rudy Giuliani.

The former New York City mayor and personal attorney to Donald Trump appeared in the Borat sequel under the guise of a TV interview with Borat’s 15-year-old daughter Tutar, played by 24-year-old Bulgarian actress Maria Bakalova, who previously scored a Golden Globe nod for her performance. After the interview, the pair proceed to a bedroom, Giuliani lies back on the bed, and is caught in a compromising situation as Borat bursts into the room yelling at Giuliani, "she's too old for you."

The nominations for the 41st Annual Golden Raspberry Awards were announced Friday, and Giuliani will be up for Worst Supporting Actor at the award show honoring the worst in cinema. Giuliani will also be up for Worst Screen Combo alongside his Borat “co-star” Maria Bakalova. Other notable Razzie nominees for acting include Robert Downey Jr. in the remake Dolittle, Adam Sandler in Hubie Halloween, and the MyPillow guy Mike Lindell for his election fraud docu-movie Absolute Proof.

Giuliani, who served as the mayor of New York City from 1994 to 2001 but more recently amassed controversy as President Trump’s personal lawyer, can now add two Razzie award nominations to his resume. Giuliani's former client Donald Trump is a 3-time Razzie award winner for his appearance in 1989’s Ghosts Can’t Do It and his "performances" as president in documentaries Death of a Nation and Fahrenheit 11/9. The infamous film Cats was the runaway star of last year’s Razzie awards with 6 wins.

The tongue-in-cheek Razzies often nominate celebrity appearances in documentaries who are not actually giving performances on screen, but as the Razzies are parody awards and not meant to be taken too seriously. While Giuliani was not even aware at the time he was going to appear in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, he will have a chance to take home Razzie gold for either one of his two acting nominations at the 41st Annual Golden Raspberry Awards. In typical Razzies tradition, the awards are scheduled for April 24th, a day before the Academy Awards.
