Across the two Injustice games, there have been over fifty playable characters including guest and DLC characters. That is still only scratching the surface when it comes to DC characters as there is still a multiverse in play in the Injustice canon. The amount of potential characters is seemingly endless.
The next roster of characters is going to have fans theorizing and requesting characters. Of course, there will be returning characters but it's the new additions that will sell fans. There are several that fans will love to see but there are also those that would be great but likely won't appear.
10 Should Be Added: Plastic Man
Everyone's favorite elastic hero, incapable of taking a situation seriously. Obviously, his banter would other characters would instantly make him perfect for Netherrealm. Plastic Man could be the Injustice equivalent of Johnny Cage with all his comedic dialogue. Fans have been requesting his inclusion since he stole the show in the Injustice comics.
On top of that, his elastic abilities would easily make for some unique gameplay and flashy moves. His humor could even translate into his moves and provide memorable fights. As a bonus, Plastic Man could act as perfect promotion for the reported Plastic Man movie.
9 Unlikely: Star Sapphire
Between Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Sinestro, and Atrocitus, Netherrealm should spend time developing those characters. Atrocitus was a throwaway cameo and Sinestro was hardly in the first game. John Stewart himself was just an alternate skin for Hal Jordan.
Those characters should be given more time to shine before throwing in another Lantern with Star Sapphire. That being said, Star Sapphire's gameplay would likely still shine along with her customization. Plus Injustice 3 could once again showcase the disastrous relationship between her and Hal Jordan.
8 Should Be Added: Katana
If anybody belongs in a Mortal Kombat-style fighting game, it's Katana. Even Injustice 2 showcased that a sword-wielder can work with Damian Wayne. If Damian ends up not returning for the third game, Katana would be the perfect replacement for him.
In the Injustice comics, she was an ally of Batman's insurgency and a member of the Suicide Squad; she is said to still be alive. Katana is a gifted fighter with her own unique skill set that would feel different enough from Robin. Add a lot of gear options for her sword, mask, and outfit, Katana has the makings for a top-tier Injustice character.
7 Unlikely: Amazo
This villain could easily be the main threat of Injustice 3. Amazo is an android who can absorb and duplicate the powers and skills of any hero and villain. In a way, Amazo could be the Injustice equivalent of Shang Tsung from Mortal Kombat with the ability to copy the skillset of the opponent.
The problem with Amazo is that he was killed off in the Injustice comics. Even if Amazo were rebuilt, he's an infamously overpowered DC character; it would be a tricky balance trying to make his gameplay great without nerfing Amazo's abilities.
6 Should Be Added: Beast Boy
Raven and Dick Grayson were in Injustice: Gods Among Us, Starfire was in Injustice 2, and Cyborg has been featured as a major player in both. That's nearly all of the Teen Titans except for one: Beast Boy. Fans were begging for this character in Injustice 2 but the most they got was a profile card as a reward.
Injustice 3 would be the perfect game to make fans of the Titans really happy. Especially since the character is a fan-favorite in the HBO Max series and will be returning in the third season. Both the Atom from Injustice 2 and Kotal Kahn from Mortal Kombat showcase that transforming in combat can work. While Beast Boy was killed off in the comics, there are still ways Beast Boy could be added.
5 Unlikely: The Riddler
When Scarecrow was announced for Injustice 2, there were doubts about his gameplay. Shockingly, he became one of the most played characters for that game. Now, if Netherrealm were to announce the Riddler as a character, fans would likely approve to an extent.
That being said, a common complaint with both Injustice games is the overreliance of Batman characters. Harley Quinn, Catwoman, Robin, Bane, Poison Ivy, Scarecrow, and Deadshot have all been playable. So Netherrealm is likely going to give other characters from the DC universe a chance to shine.
4 Should Be Added: John Constantine
Another commonly requested character, John Constantine has become quite popular. Between Matt Ryan's portrayal in both animation and live-action and a cult-following for the Keanu Reeves portrayal. Constantine has become in dire need of video game representation.
Since the character was a big help for Batman's insurgency in the Injustice comics, he is another that could transition perfectly into Injustice 3. With Doctor Fate dead and the chances of Enchantress returning being slim, Constantine could fill the magic-user role perfectly. Add Matt Ryan as the voice and Netherrealm will have many pre-ordering the game.
3 Unlikely: Jonah Hex
The best bounty hunter in the old West. He's made several appearances in the DC universe thanks to some nifty time travel. The character has a great look, his skill set would likely be fun, and would be one of the more unique characters on the roster. So why would he be left out of Injustice 3?
Well, Netherrealm already has a gunslinger character in their Mortal Kombat games with Erron Black. Sure, Black has different abilities but his combat and style would just turn Jonah Hex into a clone. Fans might accuse Netherrealm of asset swapping so it'd be best to just avoid comparisons to Mortal Kombat.
2 Should Be Added: Any Watchmen Character
Though Red Hood was the most requested, one of the biggest requests for both Injustice rosters was Rorschach. However, fans would love to see any of the Watchmen make an appearance, especially after the Doomsday Clock event in the comics and the Watchmen HBO series.
Rorschach could be a brutal brawler character, the Comedian could fit within the realm of trap attacks, zoning, and parrying, Doctor Manhattan would be a perfect final boss, etc. Nite Owl could be a perfect skin for Batman, etc.
1 Unlikely: Thomas Wayne
The dark and brutal vigilante version of Thomas Wayne from the Flashpoint universe. Fans have wanted to see the character get his due in the upcoming Flash movie. Since his methods and skillset are so drastically different from Bruce Wayne, his Batman could work as his own character.
Unfortunately, while many would like to see him as his own character, once again it is another Batman character. At the most, fans will just have to settle for a Flashpoint Batman skin with a unique voice and dialogue much like with Jay Garrick or Vixen in Injustice 2.
