Tinder has officially announced a new partnership with Lyft, allowing the ability to gift a date with a ride through the ride-sharing service. With the partnership, Tinder users will soon be able to more easily access Lyft features without having to switch apps. It also echoes the increased popularity of both Tinder and Lyft amid the emerging post-coronavirus world.
Back on January 3, Tinder had reached 3.4 billion swipes, marking a major peak since last year's coronavirus pandemic hit. Similarly, Lyft has enjoyed higher demand among riders, coinciding with Tinder's rise. As a result, both companies have since developed new features which benefit their respective users during these tumultuous times. For example, Tinder has tested and released video chatting inside the app, making dating easier while socially distancing. On the other hand, Lyft has tested fare-sharing features with Venmo, allowing users to split a fare easily. Since transportation and dating often go hand-in-hand, especially before the pandemic, a partnership will benefit both companies.
In an official release from the company, Tinder confirmed how both companies will integrate in the future to offer a richer dating experience. Prior to a date, a Tinder user will be able to book a Lyft ride for the other person directly through the app. Likewise, Tinder users will also be able to access Lyft's in-app safety features. Riders will be able to share their whereabouts with loved ones and their date. Currently, there is no slated release for the new feature, but according to the same release, it will "roll out in the coming months." Additionally, the release hints at additional features which will integrate the two even further, although there are no indications of what these features will be as of now.
With the new feature, Tinder users can add a special touch to their prospective dates. Despite how safe the post-pandemic world is and will be, safety protocols still remain equally important. With a more seamless way to ensure practical and secure transportation between potential matches, Tinder is ensuring that post-pandemic dates can still happen under the safest of conditions. Even in safe environments, it's still a nice gesture to offer a free ride to and from a date. Similarly, the dating service also recently announced easier background checks to offer an additional safety-related experience for those seeking a connection. Outside of dating, Lyft has also made both riding and getting essential deliveries safer throughout the pandemic,
Though many places still have some ways to go before fully adapting to a post-pandemic world, matching and ride-sharing apps are helping to build a more convenient experience for everyone using these services. Not to mention, with both Tinder and Lyft having experienced massive surges lately, and rolling out features that genuinely make meeting others safer and more convenient, dating appears to be truly on the rise once again.
