A COVID-19 vaccination is not only more likely to protect against the virus, but also secure a dating app match. Since the start of the pandemic, dating apps, like most communication and network apps, have seen a surge in downloads and usage. However, meeting face-to-face with others has remained an issue. Something that dating apps are now looking to improve as more people become vaccinated.
Just like most other industries, the emergence of the pandemic, and the subsequent lockdown and stay-at-home orders, had a direct impact on the dating industry. However, with dating apps operating online, most were able to adapt to the situation and quickly rushed to release a variety of features, including video-chat support and virtual night-ins. With many places now starting to think about a return to normal, it now seems as though being vaccinated is the best way to boost a dating profile.
Those who are already vaccinated are getting 14-percent more matches, according to OkCupid. The benefits don’t stop there, either, with the same announcement confirming a 4.5-percent increase in app conversations, as well as a 15-percent rise in the number of profile likes for those that have received the vaccine. Due to increases like these, the dating app took the opportunity to announce it will be releasing a new “I’m Vaccinated” badge on May 24, in the hope it can help even more people match, and possibly even go on an IRL date.
While OkCupid made its badge announcement today, it is part of a wider initiative that stretches as far as The White House. In a press briefing, the White House COVID-19 Response Team referenced OkCupid, along with a number of other popular dating apps, confirming many of them are introducing a series of features to not only promote the vaccine, but also a return to real-world dating. The briefing did not go into specifics about the cross-app initiative, but the same OkCupid announcement did explain, in addition to the new vaccinated badge, users will gain access to additional features. For example, app users that add the badge within the first forty-eight hours will get a free profile Boost, while a new “Vaccinated Stack'' including all vaccinated profiles will launch in June.
As mentioned, OkCupid is only one of the dating apps taking part in this vaccination drive. Therefore, whether it is Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, Match, Badoo, or any other dating app, users might want to keep a look out for new features in the coming weeks that can help match and secure a date. That is, for those dating app users that have received a COVID-19 vaccination.
