The DCEU is certainly a popular franchise, but its divisiveness amongst fans and casual audiences is something that it will need to overcome in order to reach new heights in terms of mainstream popularity. Most people probably have their favorite DCEU films, whether it be 2017's Wonder Woman, 2020's Birds of Prey, or 2019's Shazam! But other films such as Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Suicide Squad have proven to be the topics of several heated debates amongst viewers.
DC has a seemingly endless array of fun, layered, and exciting characters in their stories, and these 10 have the most potential to make a big impression in the DCEU, and hopefully make the franchise stronger.
10 Zatanna
Zatanna Zatara is a fan-favorite character who has never been on the big screen in any film before, let alone the DCEU. She is simply last on this list because she is finally confirmed to be on her way.
A Zatanna solo film, written by the Academy Award-winning screenwriter of Promising Young Woman, Emerald Fennell, has been confirmed and will most likely be fast-tracked after the global success and acclaim of WandaVision over in the MCU. Like Wanda Maximoff, Zatanna is a fellow magic user, but Zatanna's natural charm and playfulness set her apart from Wanda. If DC plays their cards right, Zatanna could be their answer to Marvel's Scarlet Witch.
9 Blue Beetle
Jamie Reyes is the current Blue Beetle in DC comics and he would add a lot to the DCEU. His power-set is quite unique, as is the mythology behind his blue alien armor. Bonding with an ancient Egyptian Scarab found by the original Blue Beetle, Dan Garrett, gives Jamie superhuman abilities and a blue exoskeleton.
He has a fun personality and adds a lot of levity to whatever story he's in. He has appeared in the DCUA films and even in fan-favorite tv shows like Young Justice and adds a fun dynamic to whichever team he is on. This would also provide a great opportunity for a Latino actor to be given the spotlight and add some needed diversity to the DCEU.
8 Killer Frost
Caitlin Snow, the current Killer Frost, has already made herself familiar to audiences on CW's The Flash played by Danielle Panabaker but has yet to crossover into the DCEU. Her look in the comics would lend itself perfectly to live-action, as she is made completely of ice. Her powerset is reminiscent of other characters such as Iceman or Mr. Freeze, but she is neither a clear-cut hero or villain.
Similar to DCEU superstar Harley Quinn, she is able to walk the line between both which makes her stories more engaging, and would no doubt get along swimmingly with the aforementioned femme fatale. With a unique look, fun powerset, and complex personality, Killer Frost would add a lot to the DCEU.
7 Jessica Cruz
The Green Lanterns are a mainstay in DC comics and are already familiar to most audiences, but Jessica Cruz is still somewhat unknown to many people. Jessica is a fun and complex character. She suffers from severe anxiety, making her not only more relatable but would be a great talking point for conversations about mental health.
As with Blue Beetle, her character provides a great opportunity for a Latina actress and could be DC's answer to Marvel's Carol Danvers. A high-flying, glowing, intergalactic superheroine that everyone can look up to, Jessica Cruz would be a great change from all the white men that have been shown as Green Lanterns for decades.
6 Bumblebee
Bumblebee is a character with huge DCEU potential and could be their equivalent to Marvel's Wasp. A size-altering, sonic blasting, insect-inspired hero, Karen Beecher has appeared with multiple teams such as the Titans and Justice League and could answer the call to have more Black heroes in the DCEU to stand alongside Ray Fischer's Cyborg.
Her scientific knowledge and penchant for invention also mean she could be a popular as Shuri from the Black Panther franchise. Her romance with Malcolm Duncan could be very compelling if adapted correctly. Bumblebee seems like a slam dunk for live-action and would surely be a hit with fans.
5 Deadman
Deadman is already a popular character from the DCAU films and the comics themselves and would surely connect with audiences in the films. His funny, sarcastic personality is an interesting contrast to his dark and somewhat dour backstory. Boston Brand was a circus aerialist performer who was shot mid-performance and died before he hit the ground.
He was then forced to wander the earth as Deadman, who can possess the body of any living creature. His connection with Zatanna and the Justice League Dark would provide lots of great action scenes, snappy dialogue, and would be a unique powerset not yet seen in any film franchise.
4 Beast Boy
Beast Boy is already beloved by millions of fans all over the world thanks to tv shows like Teen Titans, and Teen Titans Go and would generate buzz for any DCEU film he was to be appearing in. He can currently be seen in the live-action Titans series, but with budget restraints and a gritty, darker tone, the character's powers and personality are not realized to their fullest potential.
With a bigger budget, their newfound confidence in moving away from an overly grim tone, and the right casting, the DCEU could be the place where Garfield Logan is able to be unleashed and brought to visceral life.
3 Circe
Based on actual Greek mythology, Circe is an evil (sometimes anti-heroic) sorceress and is a recurring villain of Wonder Woman. Bringing Circe to the DCEU, specifically to the third Wonder Woman film currently in development, seems like a no-brainer. Not only do they have a long history in the comics, but Diana hasn't had a main female villain in her films yet.
The Cheetah came close in Wonder Woman 1984, but was only an antagonist in the third act of the film, whereas Maxwell Lord took center stage. Her costumes and powers would be a visual treat and with good writing and casting, could be a true match for Gal Gadot's hero.
2 Vixen
Mari McCabe, aka Vixen, has all the ingredients to be a coveted role and great addition to the DCEU. Vixen would provide great representation for Black women and girls, and be able to stand toe to toe with the biggest heroes in the universe. Her Tantu Totem grants her all the abilities of the entire animal kingdom.
She possesses flight, strength, the ability to breathe underwater, increase her skin density to become practically bulletproof, and anything else an animal can do. All she needs is her imagination. When she's not saving the world, Mari works as a model and activist.
1 Poison Ivy
The fact that Poison Ivy has yet to show up in the DCEU should be a criminal offense. The character hasn't been portrayed on the big screen since Uma Thurman and there are a plethora of talented actresses who would be perfect for the part. Her powers, motivations, and design are always so brilliantly done in DC's comics, video games, and animated material, and all seem to have a different take on the character.
All of this only adds to her rich legacy and helps grow her already large fanbase. Not to mention, her romance with Harley Quinn is a fan favorite relationship and would be great representation for the LGBTQ+ community, which most mainstream films could benefit from. Everything from her look, powers, motivations, and relationships cement Ivy as the DC character most suited and best set up to make her debut in the DCEU.
