BBC's Time: The Best Characters, Ranked | ScreenRant

The BBC's newest drama, Time, has proven to be a gripping show and features a fantastic ensemble cast. The brilliance of this show is that all the main characters are flawed, yet they also have emotion and while the prison setting brings some negative characters, that's not the case for everyone.

There are some powerful stories within this show from dealing with grief, forgiveness, and people doing whatever it takes to protect their families. Certain characters brought a little more positivity, while others had far darker storylines, whether that's because they were evil or incredibly emotional, which created a fantastic overall range.

10 Jackson Jones

Jackson Jones is one of the prisoners in Time, and while the character plays a crucial role within the series itself, he is not a nice person. He's someone that everybody goes to within the prison to get drugs, and he is respected to the point where nobody will try any funny business with him.

However, he pushes several characters to their limits throughout the show, having a devastating impact on everybody that he touches. Because he causes problems for everybody else, he is a character that most audiences will despise.

9 Johnno

Johnno is a similar character to Jackson Jones in the sense that he is happy to just hurt as many people as possible. He's a bully in every sense of the word, spending his time picking on different victims and harming them in a variety of ways.

Whether it's throwing boiling sugar water onto somebody or eating their food, Jonno just isn't a nice person. However, he's not as dislikable as Jackson, simply because when he's put in his place, he calms down and backs off.

8 Pete

Another prisoner who likes to cause problems for others is Pete. He's not as heavily featured as the other two bullies inside the prison, but he makes his presence felt. Pete clearly has connections outside of the prison, and that allows him to make problems for Eric's son in a different prison.

He gets to bully and intimidate inside the prison and his mind games end up working and paying off. However, when it comes to the story, it does make him quite an unlikeable person within the prison.

7 Galbraith

Galbraith isn't the man in charge of the prison setting, but he is a highly respected prison officer and one that everyone seems to listen to and understand. He's not shown as often as certain other characters, but when he is, Galbraith makes an impact.

He's easy to like from an audience perspective, mainly because he treated everybody he encounters with respect. That level of calmness under pressure simply makes him one of the better characters, and someone who people like to watch.

6 Sonia McNall

Sonia McNall is an excellent character within the show, being somebody who is desperate to help keep her son alive and happy during his stint in prison, all while her husband works as a prison officer in a different prison setting.

She lives at home and is shown in a comforting role more than anything, and her character works to prove the impact that prison lives can have upon those who are still at home. She's done nothing wrong but ends up with her son and husband in serious trouble, and her ability to stay strong throughout that is remarkable.

5 June Cobden

June Cobden is left at home with her son in prison as well, although things are different for her due to the fact her son is much older. She's a character that is clearly still a mother first, above everything, and she puts all of her focus on ensuring that Mark is okay inside prison.

She's a character that is easy to like due to her caring nature, and the difficulty that she goes through not only with her son but also with what happens to her husband outside of prison worries, it's a character with a lot of stories.

4 Daniel

Daniel ends up being Mark's cellmate partway through the series, and he's someone who deals with a lot of emotions. He struggles to deal with the idea of forgiveness, and not being forgiven for the crimes he committed is something that sends him on an emotional spiral.

However, the character is a great part of the series and his personal story is one that is great to watch. It's clear that he wants to improve as a person, but, it isn't possible for him which is tough to witness.

3 Marie-Louise

Marie-Louise is a completely different character within the prison setting, bringing religion into the show as she tries to open a different path to the inmates. She allows them to prove themselves, giving talks to young students who are going down a bad path.

Unlike the other staff who can be quite strict with the prisoners, Marie-Louise brings a softness to the show, and that helps her stand out and feel unique amongst the other characters. She brings some humor and plenty of wise comments as well, all of which add up to make her such a strong part of the cast.

2 Eric McNally

Eric McNally is a prison officer who works hard to gain the respect of everybody, ensuring that people will do as they're told. However, while he's a stand-up person, everything changes when the prisoners learn that his son is in a different prison as an inmate.

His desperation to protect his son was great to see, with Eric doing whatever it takes to keep his son alive. Eric having to jump into a world of crime, smuggling in drugs, was a major twist, and it was a tremendous storyline within the show which was all about a father looking out for his son.

1 Mark Cobden

Sean Bean's character, Mark Cobden is the heart and soul of this series and it brings great emotion to the show. A teacher who ends up becoming an alcoholic who kills someone while drunk driving is an intriguing character, and Mark is someone who doesn't fit in amongst the rest of his prison inmates.

His journey of learning to deal with prison life and the different rules that come with it are fascinating to watch. Seeing his journey for forgiveness was well done, and the emotion within his family storyline is also a lot of fun. While he's a character who makes a major mistake, he's one that actively tries to learn from it and better his life, which is a nice trait to have.
