Aquaman 2 Set Photo Reveals Ice Cave Setting As Filming Starts

Aquaman 2 director James Wan unveils a photo of an icy new location and confirms filming has begun. Jason Momoa first brought Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman to the DCEU in ensemble projects like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, but it wasn't until 2018 that he received his first standalone adventure. Aquaman explored Arthur's origins as a half-human, half-Atlantean, and overall, the film received positive marks from fans and critics. A sequel was greenlit soon after, but it's taken some time to arrive.

Aquaman 2 is currently scheduled to premiere in December 2022. Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but it will see much of the original cast return. Beyond Momoa, this includes Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Patrick Wilson. Franchise newcomer Pilou Asbaek signed on in April as an unnamed character. Aquaman 2, which will officially be titled Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, has been inching towards production for weeks now. Most recently, Momoa confirmed it would begin in July.

That timeline appears to have been sped up ever so slightly, as Wan now confirms filming for Aquaman 2 has kicked off. The director unveiled a picture of an ice cave on social media and wrote, "Day One." Also present in the image is a slate, which reveals Aquaman 2's working title to be "Necrus." Check it out below.
