Niantic and The Pokémon Company have officially declared July 1st as Bidoof Day for Pokémon GO players. The event will offer a Special Research story which, for the first time ever, will have choices that affect the outcome of the story. Bidoof is a fan-favorite Normal-type Pokémon, and players who don't already have a Bidoof will want to join in the fun on Bidoof Day to take advantage of its increased spawn rate.
Pokémon GO regularly keeps its fans entertained with events and promotions, having just recently revealed new details on the upcoming Pokémon GO Fest. The event begins on July 17 and is only the second of its kind. On July 18 players will see all Legendary Pokémon available in raids. While players won't need to purchase a paid Pokémon GO Fest ticket to participate in Legendary Raids, they will have to join five-star raids at set times to ensure they capture the Pokémon they're looking for. Niantic has confirmed Legendary Pokémon will be available in four different time slots, and will include rare catches such as Mewtwo, Articuno, Lugia and more. Players will also have the option to purchase a Pokémon GO Fest ticket at a discounted price of $5.00, a special rate to celebrate the game's fifth anniversary. Along with Pokémon GO Fest and Bidoof Day, players have Shiny Corsola and Okinawan Shirt Pikachu to look forward to later in July, though the catches do have some specific region-based conditions.
The July 1 Bidoof Day was officially announced on Twitter, with The Pokémon Company teasing "Bidoofery" and "mystery". The official Pokémon GO website is much less cryptic, confirming exactly what players can expect from the special event. According to the blog, Bidoof will be the only Pokémon available to challenge in one-star, three-star, and five-star Raid Battles. Niantic has also announced Bidoof caught on Bidoof Day will know Superpower, and players will "be able to use a Charged TM during the event to teach Bidoof Ice Beam, Shadow Ball, or Thunderbolt. After the event, you can use an Elite Charged TM to teach Bidoof Ice Beam, Shadow Ball, Superpower, or Thunderbolt." Features available throughout the June 25 - July 1 Bidoof Breakout Event will also be live, meaning an increased spawn rate for Bidoof in Pokémon GO and a better chance to catch its Shiny variant.
Pokémon GO's Bidoof Day celebrations don't end there though, as it's been revealed that the event will be the first to give players choices that can impact the outcome of the story. "Complete a free event-exclusive Special Research story for special rewards," says Niantic. "This will be the first Special Research in which you’ll make choices that’ll affect the research’s story and some parts of your event experience!" Completing the research will also earn Pokémon GO players an exclusive Bidoof Hat avatar item.
Pokémon GO recently came under fire after announcing some of the measures put in place for the coronavirus pandemic would be reversed. Last year, the game made fundamental changes to its core gameplay, increasing the distance needed to access PokéStops and Gyms. The change meant players wouldn't need to crowd around real-world locations, while also making the game more accessible for those at home. Players are now petitioning Pokémon GO to keep these extensions in the game following news the title would be returned to its pre-pandemic version.
Pokémon GO's Bidoof Day will take place Thursday, July 1, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. local time.
