Glenn Close will star in season 2 of the Apple TV+ series Tehran. The series follows Tamar (portrayed by actress Niv Sultan), a Mossad hacker-agent who infiltrates Tehran under a false identity. When her mission to destroy Iran’s nuclear reactor fails, Tamar finds herself trapped in a dangerous new life. Tehran season 1 aired for eight episodes and represented an effort between Israel, where it aired on public channel Kan 11, and Apple TV+, which distributes the show internationally. Tehran season 1 was met with overwhelmingly positive critical reviews, praising the series' ability to balance global political espionage with personal storylines. Apple TV+ renewed Tehran for season 2 in January 2021.
Per Deadline, acclaimed actress Close will join season 2 of Tehran. Close will play the new lead role of Marjan Montazeri, a British woman living in Tehran. According to Deadline, Close “is a big fan of the series” and “expressed interest in reading the new role which was created for her.” No other details about her character are available at this time.
It will come as no surprise to those who enjoy Close's work that Tehran created a new role for the actress. Close has commanded respect from the film and television world for decades, curating iconic roles in Fatal Attraction and 101 Dalmatians. She's also coming off an Academy Award-nominated turn in Hillbilly Elegy. Despite her illustrious career, Close holds a tied record as the most Academy Award-nominated actor without a win at eight. Those who have followed the actress' impressive career will be hoping her work in the prestige Tehran drama continuous her awards recognition.
