What Minecraft Crossovers Should Happen Next | Screen Rant

From Mass Effect to Star Wars to, most recently, Sonic the Hedgehog, Minecraft has had many high-profile crossovers throughout its existence. It makes sense, given Minecraft’s extreme versatility. Many have compared Minecraft to LEGO, and the comparison is apt: since Minecraft and LEGO are able to create elaborate structures out of simple blocks, both only need theming and some clever engineering to recreate visual elements of any other franchise.

Minecraft’s gameplay is also quite easy to modify, and several mods and DLCs have added astonishing features to the base game. These have included fighter jets, navigable ships, and industrial automation. In fact, animal breeding started as a mod before it was added to the official code. Minecraft’s potential and lasting popularity guarantees that we haven’t seen its last crossover, which leaves some speculation as to what that could be. Here are a few crossovers that might have the potential to be realized one day.

A mashup between Minecraft and Subnautica almost seems like a no-brainer. Subnautica is already an open-world sandbox with survival elements, gameplay elements that it shares with Minecraft. Subnautica also captures the same feelings of wonder and exploration that Minecraft does. The mashup may also be helpful to many players who are drawn to Subnautica’s beauty but are too afraid to experience its scarier aspects. After all, a terrifying Reaper Leviathan attack may prove considerably less so when said Leviathan is made up of blocks.

Unfortunately, there aren’t many good Star Trek games for fans to enjoy, and so Trekkers often have to turn to unofficial mods in other games to scratch that particular itch. Minecraft is one such game, and fans have already done impressive things to integrate Star Trek into the game. Most notable is a 1:1 recreation of the enormous U.S.S Enterprise-D from Star Trek: The Next Generation, to the extent that official documents had to be consulted to create rooms which were not featured in the actual show. Officially licensed DLC, backed by funding and professional development, would have the potential to take Star Trek in Minecraft even further. There are plenty of iconic ships and locations that players would love to explore, like the other iterations of the Enterprise, Voyager, or Deep Space 9. Minecraft already has a system that involves teleportation to other dimensions; perhaps that can be reworked to allow players to “beam down” to other planets and complete missions.

One of the hallmarks of the Bioshock franchise is its beautiful and exotic locations. Players often wish to fully explore Rapture or Columbia, though a large portion of those cities are represented by inaccessible backdrops to linear levels. Minecraft would give fans an opportunity to explore every distant building in one of Bioshock’s iconic cities, and even live in them. Since Rapture’s society has fallen in the game’s lore, its population descended into homicidal madness, a map of Rapture recreated in Minecraft could simply reskin hostile mobs into splicers and let them spawn naturally.

Minecraft has nearly limitless crossover potential. The only thing that stands in the way of any particular franchise being made as a Minecraft DLC is licensing and the developer’s own willingness to create it. However, even those can be circumvented by unofficial mods, particularly for Minecraft: Java Edition. In any case, fans of Minecraft are likely to have at least one of their other fandoms represented in the game - if not now, then in the near future.
