Arrested Development Meets The Office: 5 Couples That Would Work (& 5 That Wouldn't)

Arrested Development and The Office both first aired in the early 2000s and have developed a cult following since then. They're both incredible comedies, but their characters couldn't be more different from one another. Arrested Development's dysfunctional Bluth family is entitled and used to a certain level of luxury, while the employees of The Office's Dunder Mifflin Paper Company live mediocre and relatively boring middle-class lives.

The two groups of people might not be of the same social standing, but they both have enough quirky characters that just might end up fostering surprisingly lovely relationships if their paths would cross.

10 Would Work: Erin Hannon & George Michael

Erin Hannon and George Michael are both among the friendliest and most agreeable characters in their respective TV shows. It doesn't take much to dazzle the ever-so bubbly Erin, which just might work in George Michael's favor.

He tends to be socially awkward around women, but chances are that innocent Erin would find that endearing or that she wouldn't even notice. George Michael is a genuinely good person and he deserves to be with somebody as kind-hearted as himself. He would probably treat Erin better than Andy ever did!

9 Wouldn't Work: Darryl Philbin & Kitty Sanchez

The beloved laid-back Darryl has one priority in his life: his daughter Jada. His marriage ended with an ugly divorce, so it's very unlikely he'd tolerate someone as chaotic as Kitty Sanchez for long. After all, Darryl's rebound with Kelly didn't last either, and she's a lot like Kitty in some ways.

Kitty would never consider being loyal to anybody outside of the Bluth family. The only men she's ever shown interest in are Oscar, Michael, and GOB Bluth.

8 Would Work: Michael Bluth & Pam Beesly

One of the saddest things about Pam Beesly is that she never gave herself a chance to march to the beat of her own drum. Similarly, Michael Bluth always claimed to have put his family first at the expense of his own needs being met. Chances are that these two would bond over their disappointments and develop a wholesome relationship.

Pam is not assertive in relationships, but since Michael feels a profound sense of responsibility for those he loves, he would make sure that Pam's wishes are considered. Together, they would live an ordinary, safe, and predictable life: they'd be equal partners.

7 Wouldn't Work: GOB Bluth & Angela Martin

From his commitment issues to his horrible pick-up lines, Gob is hard to get along with. While more cheerful or patient characters might stick with him for a little while, Angela Martin would find the oldest Bluth brother insufferable.

The uptight Angela has zero-tolerance for tomfoolery and would most likely find Gob's magic ridiculous. After all, she's got incredibly high standards, even though even she is not immune to making poor life decisions from time to time herself.

6 Would Work: Creed Bratton & Lucille Bluth

If there is anyone from The Office that could get along with the ice-cold Lucille Bluth, it's Creed. Just like Oscar Bluth, he's always on the verge of homelessness. There's no doubt that Lucille would despise him for it just like she does Oscar, but luckily, Creed simply wouldn't care what she thinks.

Creed is a man with many secrets, which might bother most people, but not Lucille. She's too preoccupied with herself! Both Creed and Lucille are incredibly selfish and never consider other people. It's a toxic pairing, but it just might work out.

5 Wouldn't Work: Dwight Schrute & Lindsay Bluth Fünke

Dwight Schrute and Lindsay Bluth would instantly butt heads. After all, Lindsay is all about promoting causes, such as women's rights and protecting the wetlands. Dwight, on the other hand, loves tradition, farming, and rigid rules. He'd have no tolerance for Lindsay's activism.

Additionally, Dwight is a disciplined man who takes his job seriously and expects others to do the same. It's very unlikely he'd get along with Lindsay who has never worked a day in her life.

4 Would Work: Michael Scott & Tobias Fünke

Michael Scott and Tobias Fünke both live in denial, which other characters often find frustrating. If they were to cross paths, they'd likely find an amazing companion in one another. They would probably try and support other's hopes and dreams, even if they are completely unrealistic.

Not only are they both good-natured and generally optimistic, but they also share similar interests. Tobias' great passion is acting, while Michael dabbles in comedy.

3 Wouldn't Work: Lindsay Bluth & Jim Halpert

If there's one thing that Jim's romantic interests, Karen and Pam, have in common, it's that they're both grounded and kind. Lindsay is definitely not Jim's type. If anything, Jim would mock her to no end. Perhaps he'd even pull pranks on her all the time as he does with Dwight.

While Lindsay undoubtedly craves validation from men, she never reads the room right. She ended up flirting with a peculiar arrangement of characters, such as Steve Holt, her teenage nephew, the family lawyer, or Ice the bounty hunter. Jim would never even catch her eye.

2 Would Work: Stanley Hudson & Lucille Bluth

If there's one thing that Stanley and Lucille have in common, it's that they both have a no-nonsense approach to life. If Lucille respected his (somewhat rigid) boundaries, they just might make for a nice pair! They both enjoy the finer things in life. Stanley could probably get used to Lucille's luxurious lifestyle really fast.

Since they're both stubborn and never apologize, this relationship might be prone to conflict. But a great thing about Stanley is that he wouldn't let Lucille humiliate him like she does others. Who knows - perhaps he could even help Lucille become a better person.

1 Wouldn't Work: Kelly Kapoor & Buster Bluth

Kelly Kapoor and Buster Bluth only have one thing in common: they're both the embodiment of the medical term arrested development. Buster still acts like a child, while Kelly still has the worldview of a teenage girl. However, it's very unlikely they'd bond over drinking some really sweet juice together as they struggle with forming meaningful relationships.

Additionally, both Buster and Kelly demand a lot of attention. If they were to meet each other and had to spend some time together, they'd always be fighting. And that wouldn't be a pretty sight!
