Schitt's Creek: 10 Best Standalone Episodes To Watch Over And Over

Standalone episodes are those that can be watched independently while understanding the theme of the show without having watched previous episodes. These episodes can be watched by viewers who want a peek inside of Schitt’s Creek without watching the series from start to finish. They’re charming, they’re hilarious, and they’re easy to follow.

10 Wine And Roses

The cold open to ‘Wine and Roses’ shows new viewers the kind of relationship the Roses have with each other, which paints the picture for the rest of the episode.

When Moira is offered an acting job promoting a local winery, she jumps at the opportunity. However, the job goes down in flames when Moira can’t pronounce the winery’s name and hated the taste of wine with every sip. With Moira at the winery, viewers learn more about Alexis and David’s personal lives, which could lead to watching more episodes.

9 Family Dinner

‘Family Dinner’ kicks off with the Rose kids admitting they don’t cook and never learned how to. After a few snipes among the family, Moira finally says she’ll cook for them all but no one really believes her.

It's easy to realize that Moira is not an avid cook and has no idea what to do, which is why she needs David's help. Watching David and Moira in the kitchen together will be hilarious for any viewer, considering they’re unfamiliar with how a kitchen works.

8 Allez-Vous

Knowing how desperate the Roses are for money makes ‘Allez-Vous’ a relatable and hilarious standalone episode. After Moira and David receive a package of cosmetics from an old friend, they decide to partake in the world of pyramid schemes. David has some hilarious quotes regarding their potential future as sellers, hooking new viewers in.

The mother and son duo then have their new friends from Schitt’s Creek over and they try to sell the products to them nonchalantly. Meanwhile, the desperation continues when Johnny would do anything to borrow a car, and Alexis begs her new boyfriend to stop being so nice. It’s one of those episodes that doesn’t require a backstory because it’s all happening as it goes in the episode.

7 Stop Saying Lice!

Before diving into ‘Stop Saying Lice,’ viewers should know that although Alexis is in her late 20’s/early 30’s, she is attending high school again to get her diploma. It’s because of her time at school (and an itchy scalp) that she finds out she has lice.

She has never had lice before and is incredibly freaked out and embarrassed by the idea, as are her family members. She then goes on a wild path of breaking into the vet clinic for clarifying shampoo but it doesn’t go the way she planned.

6 Pregnancy Test

With the Roses down on their luck, a new baby in the family would have added more stress. Those were the thoughts going through Johnny’s head when he found a positive pregnancy test in Alexis’s bathroom.

Throughout the episode, the father-daughter duo tries to talk about the situation and ends up going in circles instead of outwardly saying it. In actuality, Johnny and Alexis are on two different pages and don’t meet eye to eye, but it shows the family’s poor communication skills perfectly.

5 Baby Sprinkle

After watching ‘Pregnancy Test,’ viewers know the truth behind the pregnancy test and who was actually pregnant, Jocelyn. But because she was so overwhelmed, Jocelyn begs David for advice and asks him to throw a baby shower for her. David does everything he can to get out of it but can’t, leading David into a world of baby shower planning.

With David not being a dad (or a kids person in general), watching him scramble to plan a party at a moment's notice is the epitome of David’s anxiety.  Over in Alexis’s side of the story, viewers get an inside scoop of what her former life was like, making it the perfect standalone episode.

4 Merry Christmas, Johnny Rose

For anyone who enjoys a good holiday episode, ‘Merry Christmas, Johnny Rose’ is Schitt’s Creek’s go-to. The standalone episode does a great job with a meaningful flashback as the cold open and showing how much the Roses have improved over time.

Viewers will see just how wealthy the Roses once were and how different their lives are now. From traditions to Johnny’s desire for a Schitt’s Creek Christmas, this episode has all the feels for new and avid fans.

3 The Incident

‘The Incident’ starts with a hilarious opening. Patrick and David are startled when they wake up in a puddle of David's urine. With his finance next to him, David realizes he wet the bed.

He tries to go on with his day pretending like it didn’t happen but that’s hard to do when his mother doesn’t know how to work social media and accidentally uploaded his confession to her profile...

2 Bad Parents

New viewers find out the exact dynamic between Parents and children in ‘Bad Parents.’ With the Roses being new to Schitt’s Creek, it’s the first time in a long time that they’ve been with their kids in such close quarters.

It’s then that they realize they really don’t know their kids. Throughout the episode, Johnny and Moira try to get to know Alexis and David better, which is a wonderful way for viewers to do the same.

1 Milk Money

In the cold open, new viewers will quickly learn that Moira is running for town council even though she doesn’t really fit in with the townspeople. And while Moira’s husband Johnny is supportive of his wife, he’s inwardly panicking about the family’s finances.

Johnny later learns about the raw milk market and thinks it’s the easiest way to make the family money. This leads him and Alexis down a dark path of illegal milk activity that’s too funny to ignore.
