Pokémon Unite Roster: Every Playable Pokémon In The Game

With the launch of Pokémon Unite, some players may be wondering what Pokémon they'll be able to release onto the battlefield. While most generations of Pokémon are represented, Johto has been left in the dust for Pokémon Unite's release. There are currently twenty available playable Pokémon characters for Unite's initial launch.

Each Pokémon is grouped into a class (called Battle Types) based on their in-game strengths and weaknesses, with five types available for the twenty Pokémon currently in the game's roster. Character attacks can be either Melee or Ranged, with Pokémon Unite's Battle Types including Attackers, Defenders, Speedsters, Supporters, or All-Rounders. The available Pokémon are also divided based on difficulty level, which ranges from Novice to Intermediate and Expert.

Keeping with tradition, it seems that Pokémon Unite has given the Kanto region much more attention than later generations. But Galar, Sinnoh, Alola, and Hoenn regions are represented as well, with a variety of Pokémon that should make it easy for players to find at least a few Pokémon they really love.

  • Pikachu
  • Charizard
  • Machamp
  • Venusaur
  • Gengar
  • Mr. Mime
  • Slowbro
  • Snorlax
  • Wigglytuff

Some of the most popular Pokémon such as Charizard and Pikachu are featured as a Melee All-Rounder and Ranged Attackers respectively. They are joined by other popular inclusions such as Machamp, Venusaur, and Gengar. Machamp is one of the better-known fighting Pokémon, and is one of Pokémon Unite's Intermediate Melee All-Rounders. Venusaur joins Charizard in representing the Kanto starters as a Ranged Attacker with an Intermediate difficulty, with Charizard as a Novice Melee All-Rounder. Gengar is the only Ghost-type Pokémon in Pokémon Unite, a Melee Speedster with an Expert difficulty. Some characters that likely weren't expected at launch are Mr. Mime, Slowbro, Snorlax, and Wigglytuff. Mr. Mime and Wigglytuff are both Intermediate Support characters in Pokémon Unite, with Mr. Mime being a Melee combatant and Wigglytuff sporting Ranged attacks. Slowbro and Snorlax are both Defenders, with Slowbro as an Intermediate Ranged character and Snorlax as a Novice Melee character.

  • Absol
  • Lucario
  • Garchomp
  • Crustle
  • Greninja
  • Talonflame
  • Alolan Ninetails
  • Zeraora
  • Eldegoss
  • Cramorant
  • Cinderace

While Kanto may see more immediate attention from Pokémon Unite than other regions, fans of Hoenn and onwards will be pleasantly surprised with some of the featured Pokémon. One of the earliest reveals from Pokémon Unite's trailer was the Disaster Pokémon Absol, a Melee Speedster with an Expert difficulty rating. Lucario and Garchomp are also here, representing the Sinnoh region. Lucario is a Melee All-Rounder character with an Expert difficulty, suiting the needs of any experienced player. Garchomp shares Lucario's Battle Type, but presents an Intermediate difficulty for newer players. Joining these powerful Pokémon is Crustle, the sole representative of Pokémon's fifth generation. Crustle is a Melee Defender character in Pokémon Unite, and has a Novice difficulty rating for new players.

More popular Pokémon will be available to players from some of the latest generations, including Greninja and Talonflame from Pokémon X and Y. Greninja debuts as a Ranged Attacker with an Expert difficulty rating, while Talonflame is a Melee Speedster with a Novice difficulty rating. Pokémon Unite also features one of Alola's regional variants with Alolan Ninetails as a Ranged Attacker of Intermediate difficulty. Alolan Ninetails is joined by Zeraora, one of Alola's mythical Pokémon, as a Melee Speedster of Expert difficulty. Pokémon's Galar region is also receiving attention within Pokémon Unite, starring Eldegoss, Cramorant, and Cinderace as members of the powerful roster. Eldegoss is likely one of the first Gigantamaxed Pokémon players will encounter in Pokémon Sword and Shield, and stars as a Ranged Supporter of the Novice difficulty in Pokémon Unite. Cramorant was an unexpected addition, and is surprisingly an Expert level Ranged Attacker. Cinderace rounds the cast off in representing Pokémon's Galarian region starters, joining Pokémon Unite as a Novice Ranged Attacker.

Pokémon Unite and its twenty playable Pokémon characters are available now on Nintendo Switch, with future iOS and Android apps to follow. Pokémon such as Blastoise and Gardevoir, as well as other fan favorite Pokémon will be available in Unite with future updates. Pokémon Unite is currently free to play for all players.
