A series of photos of the official merchandise for Spider-Man: No Way Home confirmed the web-slinger is getting a new suit, this time one powered by magic thanks to Doctor Strange, which also proves Karl Mordo’s fears were right. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4 has been introducing new characters and concepts, most notably that of the multiverse, and after what happened in the finale of Loki, fans are eagerly waiting for Spider-Man: No Way Home to continue exploring it.
The MCU’s Spider-Man made his debut in Captain America: Civil War when he was recruited by Iron Man and later got his first solo movie in Spider-Man: Homecoming. After returning in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) closed the Infinity Saga with Spider-Man: Far From Home. Plot details about his next adventure, Spider-Man: No Way Home, are a mystery, but as it will bring back Jamie Foxx’s Electro and Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus, fans hope it will deal with the multiverse, and luckily for Peter, he will count on the help of Doctor Strange, who will also have a hand in the making of his new suit.
While fans wait for the first teaser or trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home, Marvel released a bunch of images of the official merch for the movie, teasing battles at the Sanctum Sanctorum, and showing off Spider-Man’s new suit. With Tony Stark now gone, it seems like Doctor Strange will take his place and will help with the enhancements of the new Spider-Man suit (called “integrated suit”), which now uses magic as the toys show him with Tao Mandala-like figures around his hands, and while this gives Peter some exciting abilities, it also proves that Doctor Strange’s villain, Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), was right in fearing that sorcerers don’t respect magic.
Karl Mordo is a former member of the Masters of the Mystic Arts and ally of Stephen Strange, helping him and Wong (Benedict Wong) stop Kaecilius’ (Mads Mikkelsen) plans. By the end of Doctor Strange, Mordo became disillusioned with magic and everything he knew and had been taught after learning the truth about his mentor, the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), and later by Strange breaking nature’s laws to get rid of Dormammu. Mordo came to the conclusion that sorcerers abuse their power and the many imbalances in the world were their fault, so he left the Masters of the Mystic Arts and started hunting sorcerers to take their magic, as his new mission is to cleanse the world of rogue sorcerers who don’t use their magic correctly. Now, Spider-Man wearing a suit that grants him magical powers proves Mordo’s fears were right, as sorcerers, in this case Doctor Strange, are not respecting the process of learning and using magic, and he’s now giving Peter Parker those powers just because.
It’s to be seen how Peter will use these new powers and how responsible he will be, as this can have potentially terrible consequences for Doctor Strange precisely because of how he granted a young hero magic powers. This could even catch the attention of Mordo, setting up his return in the near future. Spider-Man: No Way Home has been teasing a lot of exciting stuff, and the dynamic between Spider-Man and Doctor Strange is going to be a very interesting one to watch.
