Pokémon Unite's Gardevoir Release Date Set For Tomorrow

A new Pokémon will soon be taking part in battles on Aeos Island, as Gardevoir will join Pokémon Unite's roster tomorrow, July 28. This will be the first new Pokémon to arrive in the game since Zeraora, which is a login bonus during the launch period of the game and won't be available as a free download after August 31, 2021.

The Gardevoir line was introduced as Psychic-type Pokémon in Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire, and it later gained its Fairy-type delineation in Pokémon X & Y. Gardevoir also gained a Mega Evolution during this period of time, but Mega Gardevoir has been phased out since Game Freak switched focus to Dynamaxing in Pokémon Sword & ShieldGardevoir was the signature Pokémon of Diantha, the Champion of the Kalos region, which meant that the climactic battle in Pokémon X & Y involved a battle against her beefed-up Gardevoir and its Mega Evolution form.

The fact that Gardevoir is coming to Pokémon Unite was already revealed recently, as it was announced alongside Blastoise and a mystery Pokémon as coming to the game shortly after launch. However, the release date for Gardevoir came about a lot quicker than expected, as the official Pokémon Unite Twitter account has announced that the Pokémon will be coming to the game on July 28.

Gardevoir is a Ranged Attacker in Pokémon Unitewhich means that it deals damage from afar while avoiding counters from enemy Pokémon. It starts out as Ralts and evolves into Kirilia by gaining experience points before finally evolving into Gardevoir. According to SerebiiGardevoir's Special 1 moves are Confusion, Psychic, and Moonblast; its Special 2 moves include Teleport, Psyshock, and Future Sight, and its Unite move is Fairy Singularity, which draws in enemy Pokémon, moves their position, and damages them.

Gardevoir is one of the most popular Pokémon from Gen 3, which is why it received a Mega Evolution in Gen 6 and a line split in Gen 4, resulting in Gallade. It's surprising that it's coming to Pokémon Unite so soon, especially as the game has only been out for a week. It's highly likely that developer TiMi will be releasing a steady stream of content in order to keep the player base engaged over the next year. Here's hoping that Pokémon Unite's frustrating microtransactions are also dealt with at some point, as no amount of popular Pokémon is going to cause players ignore the game's monetization model.
