Rainbow Six Siege: 5 Best Attackers During Operation North Star (& 5 Best Defenders)

The game Rainbow Six Siege, which recently announced a board game on Kickstarter, includes a total of 60 unique operators, evenly split between 30 attackers and 30 defenders. With each of them bearing different weapons, armor, and speed stats, as well as special gadgets, it can be difficult to choose the best one to play.

However, some manage to stand out, either because of their great weapons and attachments, or their especially useful gadgets or abilities. Some operators even manage to combine all three, thus allowing them to be seen as some of the best and most solid options available.

10 Attacker: Hibana

Hibana is, has been, and probably will continue to be one of the best operators in Rainbow Six Siege. She was the first ranged hard breacher in the game and her gadget is a great tool for opening reinforced walls or multiple hatches.

On top of that, she is the only hard breacher that has 3 speed, thus making her a solid option for entering the point right after she breaches the walls. Lastly, both her weapons are exceptionally strong, with the Type-89 rifle having little to no recoil and high damage.

9 Defender: Bandit

Bandit, one of the basic operators of the game, is also considered to be one of the most solid as he has been commonly used since the game first launched. As he is able to electrify up to 4 walls and make them immune to hard breaches, he is considered a must-have in every team, which is why he is often banned.

On top of that, he can remove and replace his gadgets quickly, in order to avoid losing them to gadgets like Thatcher's EMP (this tactic is known as 'bandit trick').

8 Attacker: Twitch

Since defenders of Rainbow Six Siege are focused on using multiple deployable gadgets, Twitch is a solid counter option for attackers because of her drone. The Twitch drone works similar to other drones, but it can also shoot a small beam capable of destroying deployable gadgets like Bandit's batteries, or Kaid's electroclaws.

Although her drone can't jump, it is the second-best option for destroying gadgets after Thatcher (who is almost always banned).

7 Defender: Thunderbird

Thunderbird is Rainbow Six Siege's latest addition and packs a very strong kit, in addition to her unique backstory. Her gadget is named Kona Station, and she can deploy 3 of them anywhere, which heal a nearby defender or attacker for 30 health, or revive them if downed.

It is a great tool to have either to support roamers or other defenders who are anchored to the site and are trying to hold certain positions. On top of that, she is a 3-speed operator which makes her a great option for roaming around after placing her gadgets.

6 Attacker: Zofia

Zofia is considered one of the best all-around attackers due to her kit giving her multiple options. Her weapon has solid recoil both at close and long-range, while her gadget is split into two parts, with the first destroying soft surfaces, and the second is a throwable concussion mine that can be used for peaking corners and hard angles.

On top of that, she has a great legendary skin inspired by the famous Resident Evil character, Jill Valentine.

5 Defender: Kaid

Kaid is, similar to Bandit, an operator that can electrify fortified surfaces. However, his asset is that he can fortify not only walls but hatches as well. This makes him a great choice on maps that have hatches as their weakest points like the basement on Bank or Chalet.

Also, he is considered a solid replacement for Bandit on normal points whenever the latter is banned. Lastly, he has a unique pistol that carries a long-range scope and is ideal for long-range engagements.

4 Attacker: Ash

Ash is a solid all-around operator due to her weapon and speed. As a 3-speed operator, whose weapon has a solid fire rate and low recoil, combined with her gadget which allows her to breach soft walls quickly, Ash is the perfect option for rushing to the point within the first seconds of a round.

Her goal is to usually catch defenders off guard, while they are still reinforcing or placing their gadgets. On top of that, she has one of the smallest hitboxes in the game, which is why many players choose to main her.

3 Defender: Valkyrie

Valkyrie is one of the most unique defenders in the game solely due to her gadget which allows her to place 3 small, concealed cameras wherever she wishes. There are some especially powerful spots that can make her cameras almost invisible.

This can help her provide solid info to all of her teammates regarding the position of enemy attackers either to flank them or even to use nitro cells and catch them off guard.

2 Attacker: Thatcher

Thatcher, one of the most beginner-friendly attacker operators, is also one of the best in general in Rainbow Six Siege, primarily due to his gadget. He carries 3 EMP blasters, which disable all defender gadgets in a certain area.

When combined with a hard breacher, it can disable any protection from reinforced walls and allow for a quick entry into the point. Thatcher is one of those picks that is always either banned or picked; that's how useful he is.

1 Defender: Mira

Mira is one of the best options for a defender if used properly. Her ability allows her to set a one-way mirror that can be used to blocks attackers' angles and pathing and change the way defenders protect each site.

Especially on maps like Villa on the Aviators & Games room site, Mira can single-handedly make the difference between victory and defeat. On top of that, her weapon, the Vector .45 ACP, has one of the highest fire rates in the game, thus allowing for quick peaks over her mirrors.
