Racing fans were without an annual release in the Forza series in 2019 and 2020, but the extra development time for Playground Games is paving the way for the grandest adventure yet in Forza Horizon 5. Throughout its history, Forza Horizon has created some stellar open-world landscapes in which to host its "Horizon Festival," with each entry expanding the size and diversity of the world along with the impressive vehicle lists.
Horizon 5 will be no different as the festival now moves to the stunning vistas of Mexico with the most diverse landscape Forza has ever featured. In this highly anticipated release, players get thrust right into the action with a sampling of the spectacular setting and wide array of transportation varieties that await on their vast adventure through jungles, deserts, beaches, and more. With heavy attention to detail, the game aims to bring the full breadth of Mexico to life.
Since its inception, Horizon has been known as the wilder and more exotic member of the Forza franchise. The fifth entry continues the tradition of wild cross-country action from snowy mountaintops to muddy trails, and it carries over the recently introduced seasonal elements and dynamic weather effects for a constant exhilaration. Players will also be treated to the largest auto selection to date, from off-road ramblers to high-end supercars, so they can experience the beauties of Mexico however they please.
One thing that has been central to Playground Games' design style is its focus on capturing the essence of Forza Horizon's various locations. To that effect, Forza Horizon 5 features a collaboration with Mexican artists, writers, actors, and more for a fully-realized depiction of Mexican culture and people, not just the landscape itself. Throughout the game, players will see street art that captures the vibrant beauty of Mexico, listen to music crafted specifically for the driving experience within the country, all while traversing the incredibly diverse terrain.
Forza Horizon 5 will feature 11 unique biomes, each with its own ambient music stretching across the largest Horizon map to date. Players get thrust into the stunning setting and intense action immediately as they airdrop onto a smoldering, snow-capped caldera and go racing down it in the new Ford Bronco Badlands to the desert below. Sandstorms appear at random throughout the desert, as do rainstorms within the jungles. Players can drive freely through any location from sandy beach to muddy jungle and beyond regardless of vehicle. Whether they want to cruise around in the Bronco for the ultimate off-road experience or the new Mercedes AMG 1 for an epic Formula 1 inspired adventure, the possibilities are bountiful.
Playground Games isn't only focused on the setting and vehicle collection, though. The additional year of development also allowed it to rebuild the suspension and braking system within the game's engine for a better driving experience across all cars. Eliminator returns in Horizon 5, and the entire map was designed with the mode in mind with this outing. The upcoming game will also feature a new mode called Horizon Tour, which will function as a car club that Playground will soon release more details of. Event Lab in Forza Horizon 5 will allow players to create whatever their minds can dream up virtually anywhere within the map.
All of this is stacked on top of the improved graphic capabilities coming to both Xbox Series X/S and PC for incredible visual fidelity. From seasons changing the various landscapes to each patch of mud having its own unique physics, Forza Horizon 5 looks to push the graphics to new heights while also delivering a rich, vibrant world filled with tons of adventure.
Forza Horizon 5 will release November 9th, 2021, on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox Game Pass, and PC. Screen Rant was provided access to a private screening for the purpose of this preview.
