As lovable and inspiring as the characters in Gilmore Girls are, fans can't help but poke fun at a few of the moments that appear throughout the original series. After every rewatch comes new realizations that fans didn't notice before. Or, according to Reddit, they've picked up on annoyances that soon became pet peeves.
From character flaws to things that simply don't add up, fans shared all of their big and small pet peeves that build the more they watch the series. That doesn't mean these fans don't cherish the greatness that is Lorelai and Rory Gilmore and their friends living in Stars Hollow, it just means they have relatable, annoying moments.
10 Lorelai's Financial Situation Is Questionable
There are plenty of things about Lorelai and Rory's house that doesn't quite make sense. From the odd bathroom that's also a coat closet to Lorelai's bedroom being the only bedroom on the second floor. Nevertheless, that's not the only pet peeve fans have over Lorelai's house. MentionThisToMe hates how "unrealistically massive and amazing their house." Considering Lorelai went from "living in a tool shed, working at an inn, to living in a 2/3 bedroom home in suburban Connecticut with a garage and wrap-around porch?", it does seem far-fetched that she'd be able to afford this property.
9 Fans Hated That Luke Didn't Know How To Calmly Explain His Feelings
Lorelai made plenty of mistakes in her relationship with Luke, but Luke didn't always handle himself with grace. It's a pet peeve of ILovePuscifer's that Luke never knew how to handle his emotions.
They told Reddit, "I know some people find [Luke's rants] endearing or whatever, but it annoys me so much that he seems to never be able to express himself without getting angry." Not too many people take Luke's anger seriously and it could be because it happens so often.
8 Rory Complained About Community Service Before Doing The Math
Logan and Rory didn't have their best moment when they stole a yacht at the end of season 6. The episode was not Logan and Rory's best, as their actions had serious consequences. Rory had to go to court after the arrest where she was given 300 hours of community service. Rory protested the number of hours because she needed a job and didn't think she'd have time. However, fans broke it down on Reddit, proving that Rory could have easily completed her assignment.
Gomiwitch wrote "it kills me when she tells Emily she can't get a job because she already has a full-time job ... that is the equivalent of less than two months of full-time work and you have six months to do it in." Killer-Barbie added that it was just "12.5 hours a week."
7 Dean, Rory Didn't Break Up With You — You Broke Up With Her
Dean and Rory have a long, complex relationship. Their relationship timeline runs from high school through college, but they never could figure it out to make it work. One pet peeve ColorGuarder08 had was Dean's perception of their relationship.
They said, "The fact that Dean can't remember he is the one who broke up with Rory each and every time" bothers them. Dean has even said that Rory was the one who ended things with him, which was false. It was Dean who broke up with her for not saying "I love you," and it was Dean who broke up with her because of Jess. It was also Dean who broke up with her during their affair.
6 The Fake Coffee Cups Were Distracting
Coffee is a huge theme throughout Gilmore Girls. It's the one thing that Lorelai and Rory consistently talk about, love, and need. However, it was blatantly apparent that there was nothing in the coffee cups the actors were drinking from—according to Reddit user Ninjilla, at least.
"The coffee cups that are clearly empty. Put some water in the cups to make it look more realistic." There were multiple times Rory or Lorelai would talk with their hands while holding the coffee cups and there was never even a spill.
5 Christopher Never Stood Up For Lorelai Against His Parents
Christopher and Lorelai have a long history together, but they were never meant to be married. All of Lorelai and Christopher's poor moments in their relationship led to their divorce later on. Back in the beginning when the couple got pregnant, both of their parents came down hard on the couple. Christopher's parents wanted him to go to college, and they felt like Lorelai and a baby ruined that chance.
However, Christopher never wanted to go to college and was planning on not going. PrincessAcala wrote that it bothered them that "Lorelai took the blame" for Christopher even though he was never planning on going to college to begin with.
4 Lorelai Talks Poorly About Richard And Emily's Lifestyle That's Also Paying For Her Daughter's Education
RandomLadyAccount666 loathed the way Lorelai treated her parents while also hating everything they stood for: wealth and power. "I hate how much she [bad] talks her parents and their money...I can't imagine acting that way towards someone helping me," they wrote.
The separation between Lorelai and her parents was a heartbreaking one and it never seemed to get better—even in the reboot, A Year in the Life.
3 Lorelai & Rory's Behavior At Sookie's Baptism Was Unforgivable
One of the most skipped scenes in the series was the baptism scene of Jackson and Sookie's two kids because it was too uncomfortable to watch. While it's not a continuous pet peeve in the series, it was enough to make Finallygaveintor "fume." The "Height of the world revolves around the Gilmores thinking," they continued saying.
In the scene, Lorelai and Rory were still arguing over Rory dropping out of Yale. As they held Sookie's kids, they left in the middle of the baptism—while holding the kids—to argue outside—even though it was in the middle of the ceremony.
2 So. Much. Food
Plenty of fans have mentioned that while Rory and Lorelai's get-togethers and sleepovers are adorable with heaping mounds of food, it's bothersome that they rarely touch the food. Beyandemmett wrote, "It's a whole bit that they eat so much, but you hardly ever see them finishing a meal or actually eating heaps of food."
1 No One Dresses Correctly For A Connecticut Winter
Like most East Coast towns by the water, Connecticut reaches freezing temperatures in the winter months. Gilmore Girls does a great job of showing off the seasons, but not the best in dressing for the weather. Johnny_9ss's pet peeve is "the fact that their jackets/coats tend to be open even when it's snowing and obviously winter." Another mentioned that the "teeny, tiny scarves" they wear don't do much in terms of warmth.
