Godzilla vs. Kong Concept Art Gives New Look at Stunning Hong Kong Fight

Concept art for Godzilla vs. Kong reveals stunning new looks at the climactic Hong Kong fight scene. Earlier this year, Legendary's MonsterVerse reached new heights with the arrival of Godzilla vs. Kong. Though only the fourth installment in the franchise that began with 2014's Godzilla, the movie gave audiences what they had long wanted to see: King Kong and Godzilla clashing in a Kaiju battle for the ages. In a noted change from the 1962 Toho installment King Kong vs. Godzilla, this year's movie managed to actually pick a winner between the two behemoths.

Godzilla vs. Kong debuted in March both in theaters and on HBO Max. Though box office recovery had been practically non-existent at the time, it proved to be a success and is currently one of only 4 movies to cross $100 million domestically since the coronavirus pandemic began. Prior to Godzilla vs. Kong's release, many said it would be the final installment of the MonsterVerse. However, there have since been renewed rumblings about another movie being put into development following the positive reception to Godzilla vs. Kong.

After brawling on the ocean earlier in the film, Godzilla and Kong come face to face for their final fight in Hong Kong in the final act. The neon-hued scene was a visual highlight from Godzilla vs. Kong, and newly revealed concept art from Matt Allsopp (via Kaiju News Outlet) offers additional looks at the battle. A particularly thrilling image watches the two Titans fighting from below, while another shot comes from Kong's perspective as he launches himself toward Godzilla. Check out the three pieces below.

Godzilla vs. Kong earned some criticism for its muddled plot and poorly-developed human characters, but it definitely delivered on the spectacle many wanted to see. The Hong Kong battle didn't stop with just the two characters fighting; Kong and Godzilla ended up joining forces to beat Mechagodzilla. Though Godzilla was deemed the ultimate victor of the titular battle, Kong still lived to fight another day, meaning there could still be future stories centered around either beast.

Even if the MonsterVerse truly does end with Godzilla vs. Kong, it will have gone out with a bang. After spending movies setting up each Titan, it's fitting that the potential final installment of the franchise is the one that finally united them onscreen. Kong and Godzilla's battle in Hong Kong was thrilling, and the above concept art only reinforces how many impressive shots were included in the final movie. MonsterVerse fans got their wishes with Godzilla vs. Kong, and only time will tell if there is more to come beyond it.
