Harry Potter: The 10 Best Moments in Order of the Phoenix

2007's Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix contains some of the darkest scenes of the franchise as well as some of the most delightful. Umbridge casts a cruel pale over Hogwarts, but, despite this, Harry and his peers fight back and take their education into their own hands with Dumbledore’s Army. This, combined with the deepening complexity of many of the relationships in the series, makes Order of the Phoenix one of the most popular installments.

And, while there might be many depressing moments, such as Sirius's death, there are many great scenes that fans love and can’t get enough of. Despite Harry dealing with the grief of Cedric’s death and the return of Voldemort, there are a lot of positive things happening, too.

10 The Introduction Of Grimmauld Place

Grimmauld Place is definitely not an uplifting or positive place, but it provides a new location outside of Hogwarts that's filled with mysteries to unravel. Many of the dark artifacts that the Black family collected reveal a lot about wizarding history and the bigotry toward Muggles.

Plus, this house allows Harry, as well as audiences, to learn about Sirius Black’s backstory. Since he’s such a fan-favorite character, many people found this fascinating.

9 The Department Of Mysteries Is Shown

The Department of Mysteries is teased and discussed all throughout the story, so when it’s finally revealed, fans were very excited to learn some of the secrets within. The Hall of Prophecies is just one strange place Harry and his friends encounter, and things just get weirder from there.

There are rooms with floating brains and the mysterious death-shroud amphitheater. While many things about the Department of Mysteries are still unknown, fans wanted to learn as much as they could.

8 Dumbledore Escapes From The Ministry

Dumbledore is rather absent from the story in Order of the Phoenix, and Harry doesn’t know why. So, when Harry sees him in his office when Cornelius Fudge is trying to arrest him, fans were interested to know what was going on.

Seeing Dumbledore escape from so many Ministry members so easily, and doing it in style and the assistance of Fawkes, was rather delightful. It just added to Dumbledore’s overall allure and mystery.

7 The First Dumbledore’s Army Meeting

By far one of the best things about Harry’s fifth year at Hogwarts is Dumbledore’s Army. The entire thing is really Hermione’s idea, and it’s a way for the students to fight back against Umbridge and the Ministry's takeover of Hogwarts.

The fact that they all met for the first time in The Hog’s Head introduced audiences to a new strange location and interesting characters, like Aberforth. It was also a rare instance of students from different Hogwarts houses interacting and working together.

6 Harry And Arthur Go To The Ministry Of Magic

The Ministry of Magic is just as filled with magical elements as Hogwarts, but it’s much less welcoming. It was socially an unknown element that was only mentioned in the other books, but Harry’s visit for his unfair hearing allowed fans to see it for the first time.

There was also something rather weird but fun about Harry having to enter the Ministry in an old telephone booth, and fans loved this detail.

5 Dumbledore’s Army Learns To Cast A Patronus

Harry is able to teach the other members of Dumbledore’s Army many useful defensive spells such as expelliarmus, but while other spells might be practical, few are as beautiful as the Patronus.

Seeing the animal Patronuses for different characters was something everyone loved, and it revealed insight into their personalities. For example, Luna having a hare Patronus reflects her upbeat and sometimes erratic nature.

4 Fred And George Leave Hogwarts

Fred and George might be minor characters in the series, but they are memorable and hilarious ones that fans adored. Their departure from Hogwarts is one of the most triumphant scenes in the entire series as Umbridge was finally beaten in form.

Fred and George left with a bang as they let off their entire collected supply of fireworks. It was a way of resisting the cruel, strict punishments that Umbdirge had been inflicting on them all, and Umrbdige deserved to have her life become a little more difficult because of the mess they left behind.

3 Christmas At The Burrow

The holiday scenes in Harry Potter are some of the most magical and beautiful constructed, and there’s something particularly cozy about Christmas at the Burrow.

Firstly, everyone is relieved that Arthur Weasley has recovered from Nagini’s attack, and it’s a time when many of the most beloved characters get to celebrate and enjoy being together. Plus, fans loved seeing all the tiny magical moments like the cake with a moving snowman on top.

2 Voldemort And Dumbledore’s Duel

Voldemort and Dumbledore are two of the most powerful wizards in the wizarding world, so their showdown was filled with some of the most impressive magic around.

They were clearly nearly equal in their abilities, and it was a feast for the eyes when it was brought to the screen. The use of the environment, such as the Atrium fountain, made for one of the best duels in the entire film and book series.

1 Meeting Luna For The First Time

Luna is one of the most beloved characters of all, but she didn’t even appear until Harry’s fifth year at Hogwarts. When she showed up talking about nargles, she illustrated right away that she was a bit “loony,” but it was soon apparent that she was also creative, kind, and lovable.

The story would have been lesser if Luna didn’t exist, and she became a friend to Harry when he really needed extra support. Luna soon became a core part of the group.
