Tesla's most affordable car, the Model 3, offers several features that make driving easier, such as the ability to automatically tilt and fold its side mirrors at the appropriate time without the driver having to take their eyes off the road. This might seem like a little thing, but it is just another example of the many thoughtful touches that make owning a Tesla a joy.
Some of the options available to Tesla owners come at an extra cost, others require a subscription, however, there are plenty of advanced controls and options that make a Model 3 behave more like a piece of technology and less like a motor vehicle. The paid options include the infotainment update, which allows access to video streaming and the Tesla Arcade. One of the most exciting subscriptions is Full Self-Driving, which provides computer control to a specified destination, often with no driver interaction, although that isn't guaranteed yet.
Tesla's Model 3 can be set up to tilt its side mirrors automatically to help the driver see better. This can be found by using the touch screen and tapping the car icon in the lower left, which opens the Controls menu. Quick Controls is the first option listed and that is where the mirror adjustments are located. If 'Mirror Auto Tilt' is checked, it will be enabled and the other option 'Mirror Auto Fold' is just below, which allows the Tesla to fold the side mirrors close to the body. Of course, the side mirrors can be adjusted manually if preferred, but many will find these automated actions helpful.
Auto Tilt and Auto Fold are some of the most subtle and surprisingly useful automated features included in Tesla's Model 3 at no extra cost. Tilting downward when the car is shifted into reverse is quite helpful for seeing parking lines, curbs, bumpers of other vehicles, children, and pets. Auto Tilt returns the side mirrors to the normal position when shifting to drive, park, or neutral. As the name implies, this happens without the driver needing to adjust the mirrors manually. Auto Fold angles the side mirrors inward, close to the door by pivoting on the bracket that extends outward from the front of the door. This only happens when the driver has exited their Model 3 and the doors have locked. Folding the side mirrors when parked protects them from damage and allows more room for people to walk by in a crowded parking lot. Tesla notes that this feature should be switched off if ice buildup is expected, which could prevent the mirrors from unfolding when unlocking the car.
Telsa owners enjoy several advanced features and the list keeps growing with its over-the-air updates. The Model 3's automatic side mirror adjustments offer a great example of how Tesla makes driving safer and easier, with automatic tilt providing a better view when backing up and automatic folding protecting the mirrors from damage when parked.
