It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia: 10 Unbelievable Things Frank Got Away With

There are few characters in television quite as outrageous as Frank Reynolds from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Even compared to the rest of the Gang, he has engaged in some truly egregious behavior, some of it straying into the horrifying.

What’s especially remarkable about Frank, however, is the degree to which he has managed to get away with his bad behavior. No matter how depraved or illegal his actions or who he manages to hurt, he very rarely has to endure the consequences of his decisions

10 Waving Guns on a TV Talk Show

It takes a very upsetting sort of person to go on a television show and start waving guns around, but somehow, Frank Reynolds decides that that’s a wise thing to do.

If this was anyone else, there’s no question that he would have been arrested, but for some reason, Frank seems to be extremely lucky, and so he faces a remarkably small amount of pushback, even though the news anchors are clearly as stunned as one might expect.

9 Wandering Naked Through a Party

Frank is a character that often leans into physical comedy, with the more absurd a situation, the better. Take, for example, the time that Dee and Dennis sewed him up inside a couch so that he could hear what people thought about him.

Unfortunately, it turns out that it’s quite hot inside of said couch, and Frank eventually emerges, naked and very sweaty. He then proceeds to walk naked through the party, and though the people are horrified, no one really tries to stop him.

8 Initiating an Art Dealer

Frank has an almost uncanny ability to perpetrate a con, which means that he is also a master of disguise. Among many of the personas that he’s adopted, it’s hard to top the time that he pretended to be an art dealer (with a striking resemblance to Andy Warhol).

Even though he’s clearly faking his way through the whole thing, he manages to adopt the mannerisms of pretentious art critics that he gets away with the whole thing unscathed.

7 Waterboarding His Daughter Dee

Among his many other vices, Frank is very willing to manipulate others, sometimes violently. What’s more, he’s also not one to allow family loyalty to get in the way, as is obvious when he waterboards Dee.

It would have made sense if she had wanted nothing more to do with him after such a horrible ordeal, but the fact that she continues to allow him to be a part of the Gang even afterward speaks to Frank’s charmed life.

6 Manipulating Dee into being a Boxer

Time and again throughout the show, Frank shows that he’s unable to let go of a grudge, and it’s his inability to put aside his failure as a boxer that leads him to manipulate Dee into being his successor.

The truly horrifying thing about the whole affair, however, is that Dee’s opponent actually dies in the course of the match and, though she and Frank could be held liable, they end up fleeing without suffering any consequences.

5 Shouting a Homophobic Slur at Mac

Throughout the show, Frank makes it very clear that he’s not comfortable being around Mac, but he takes that to new extremes when he shouts a homophobic slur in Mac’s direction. Though he does so in an effort to keep the other man from being crushed by a piano, it’s still an extreme method.

However, while the Gang does reprimand him for his use of this language, there don’t ultimately seem to be that many consequences for Frank, and in fact, he goes on to help Mac reconcile his sexuality with his fraught relationship with his father.

4 He Tricks Dee and Dennis Into Believing Their Mom was Alive

Even though it’s ultimately revealed that Dennis and Dee aren’t really Frank’s children, he still tends to treat them as if they are. However, his affection only goes so far, and it certainly doesn’t keep him from playing a horrible trick on them when he tells them that their mother is still alive, which leads to them digging up her skeleton.

It’s a horrifying moment for them, but not enough so that they cut Frank out of their life. which is probably what most reasonable people would have done in the circumstances.

3 Sleeping with the Waitress

One of the long-running storylines in It’s Always Sunny is Charlie’s unrequited (and creepy) love for the Waitress. Though she spurns his advances, she does end up sleeping with Frank in an effort to get back at Dennis.

This is bad behavior even for Frank, and Charlie would have been well within his rights to never speak to him again. Instead, it doesn’t seem to have done any lasting harm to their bond, and as the seasons progress, they continue to grow closer to one another.

2 Running a Sweatshop

If there’s one thing that Frank knows how to do well, it’s make money, even if his methods for doing so are often flagrantly illegal. Take, for example, his sweatshop (one of many). This is, obviously, a horrifying exploitation of labor, but it’s in keeping with Frank’s general attitude, which is that everything is an opportunity for profit.

What’s even more striking, however, is that he doesn’t really seem to suffer any major consequences for what is obviously a breach of several major laws.

1 Selling The Company Out from Under Everyone

Frank doesn’t just run sweatshops; he also takes control of his own company after a long time away. However, while he appears at first to be interested in helping it survive, the truth is that he was getting ready to strip the company and sell it out from under the feet of its investors.

Even for Frank, this is a pretty low thing to do but, as seems to always be the case when he does something unethical or illegal, he’s not the one who has to pay the price of his misdeeds.
