Outer Banks: One Quote From Each Character That Perfectly Sums Up Their Personality

With a cast made up of mostly teenagers, it would be unrealistic if none of the characters in Outer Banks were flawed. The more complicated they are, the more entertaining the show is to watch. In fact, it's often villains who make the most positive impact, as Rafe has become a fan favorite.

Actions may be more important than words, but they all have a line that is an honest representation of who they are. The characters are unique and easily distinguishable from each other, and all it takes is one quote to sum up their personality and the role they play in the series.

9 Topper: "These Pogues, They Need To Make Up Reasons For Why They Don't Have Nice Things. That's All I Can Come Up With."

Ever since the beginning of Outer Banks, Topper had been adamantly against anything that had to do with the Pogues. He was rude, pretentious, and a horrible boyfriend to Sarah.

After Outer Banks Season 1, it seemed as though Topper might have a chance to redeem himself. He treated Sarah well for a period of time, but it didn't take much for him to return to his old ways. Topper will always be defined by his manipulative nature and hatred for the Pogue life.

8 Cleo: "Take Your Hands Off. I'll Cut You."

Cleo wasn't featured too heavily in Outer Banks Season 2, but considering that she's stuck on a deserted island with the main characters, it feels safe to say that she'll be playing a major role if the show gets renewed by Netflix.

One thing that viewers know for certain, is that Cleo is a force to be reckoned with. She doesn't allow anyone to take advantage of her, and anyone who tries probably won't be too happy with the result. Without Cleo, the Pogues might not have made it out of the finale alive.

7 Kiara: "I'm A Pogue, Mom! Sorry!"

Out of the Pogues' worst decisions, Kiara running away from home is at the top of the list. Kiara's biggest source of controversy in the series is often with her parents, as they don't approve of how much time she spends with her friends.

Kiara constantly tries to get her mom to understand that she is a Pogue, despite being a part of a wealthy family. She acts out as a way to prove it, which could result in Kiara getting sent to boarding school in Outer Banks Season 3.

6 Ward: "She Was Brainwashed."

Ward spends the entirety of the series blaming John B for his problems and refusing to take any personal accountability. He's convinced that Sarah had been brainwashed by her boyfriend, and doesn't recognize that his daughter turned against him because he's a murderer.

No matter what Sarah does to Ward, he believes that she was manipulated into hating him. It isn't until he tries to kill her in the Outer Banks Season 2 finale, that Ward recognizes Sarah was making her own choices all along.

5 Sarah: "I'd Rather Die Than Be Without You."

When Sarah fell for John B, she fell hard. Despite only being together for a short amount of time, Sarah and John B became the starcrossed lovers of Outer Banks. She put herself at risk and traded her family for John B after finding out the kind of man her father was.

When Sarah tells John B she'd rather die than be without him, she's not being dramatic. She stays by his side through thick and thin and is loyal to a fault. There are times in which it feels as though Sarah is defined by her romantic relationship, and it would be beneficial for her to form a tighter bond with the rest of the Pogues.

4 Pope: "Um, Can I Be Excused To Help Them In The Bathroom?"

Pope is referred to as the "brains of the operation," and he's the most responsible member of the group. Unlike his friends, Pope doesn't like to act on impulse and constantly stresses out about the consequences of his actions.

However, he's always there for the Pogues, even if he goes about things differently. This quote is especially hilarious in context because it shows the juxtaposition between Pope and the other characters. JJ and Kiara immediately ran out of class when they realized John B was alive, while Pope raised his hand and awkwardly asked to be excused.

3 John B: "I Do Stupid Things All The Time Without Realizing It."

In one of the best quotes of Outer Banks Season 2, John B says exactly what the audience is thinking. He never has any rhyme or reason for his actions, which makes him one of the more frustrating characters.

It can be hard to sympathize with John B because of the choices he makes, such as going after the gold when Sarah asked him not to. However, without his irrationality, Outer Banks would be far less interesting. A perfect protagonist doesn't push the story forward, so his flaws are crucial.

2 Rafe: "I Was Only Trying To Do Right By Dad."

Despite everything that he's done, Rafe has become a fan-favorite character. There's no way to excuse his actions, but it's also difficult not to sympathize with him. Rafe grew up believing that Ward would never love him as much as Sarah, and the feeling of being unwanted impacted him greatly.

All he wanted was for his father to be proud of him, and there was no line he wouldn't cross to make it happen. Rafe's horrid behavior and toxic mindset stem from a lack of parental affection.

1 JJ: "Nothing To Lose?"

Out of all the characters in the series, JJ is the most reckless. He feels like he's destined to end up in jail like his father, and sees his life as expendable. When the Pogues are in trouble, JJ would rather act on a poorly thought-out plan than sit around and do nothing.

His friends are the only thing he cares about, so when he says he has nothing to lose, he really means that he has nothing to lose other than the Pogues. In one of the best JJ quotes in Outer Banks, he admits that they are all he has.
