Kevin Feige Visited The Suicide Squad Set The Day Starro Was Revealed

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige visited The Suicide Squad set the day Starro was revealed. After writing several feature films like the live-action Scooby-Doo and Dawn of the Dead which helped make a name for himself, Gunn broke through onto the scene in a big way as writer/director of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014. Fast forward to 2018, the beloved director was fired by Disney during his work on a threequel after past offensive tweets came to light.

During this time, Warner Bros. quickly swooped in to hire the in-demand director. The culmination of this collaboration, The Suicide Squad, is now playing in theaters and streaming on HBO Max. Throughout his work on the DC project, Marvel fans along with the Guardians of the Galaxy cast remained supportive of Gunn, and Disney eventually decided to rehire him for Vol. 3 the following year. The mended relationship between Gunn and Feige was evidenced by the Marvel Studios president popping in on The Suicide Squad set, and now an interesting tidbit has come out about this visit.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gunn was asked if Feige, along with other prominent Marvel executives like Louis D'Esposito and Victoria Alonso, have seen The Suicide Squad. Gunn admits they haven’t, but he hopes they will see it soon. Despite that, there appears to be no bad blood between the two parties, considering Feige and D'Esposito visited the set during production. When talking about this day, Gunn revealed that their visit coincided with the day the film’s peculiar villain, Starro, was revealed. Read his full comment below:

Kevin and Lou were on set, and the day they came to set, we revealed Starro. I was like, “Oh boy.” I mean, I knew I could trust them, and of course, I was able to trust them.

While there is sometimes hostility between the DC and Marvel fandoms, this rivalry doesn’t really exist behind the scenes. Gunn can attest to this directly, given that he has now spearheaded major tent poles for the two film studios. Gunn welcoming Feige on set and trusting him with one of the film’s biggest secrets is just the latest example of the amicable relations between the two.

Considering the film’s mystery villain was revealed that day, Feige could not have chosen a better time to pop in on The Suicide Squad set, which was likely already in close proximity since The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was shooting on the same studio lot. Starro is a kaiju-sized alien starfish with telepathic powers that required a lot of CGI to bring to life, so it was surely interesting for Feige and others to see how Starro appeared on set. Nonetheless, everyone can now see Starro in full as The Suicide Squad is now playing in theaters and streaming on HBO Max.
