Pokémon GO Ultra Unlock Part 3 Event Removes Falinks From Raids

The developer of Pokémon GO has announced that the Pokémon Falinks has been removed from raids due to a glitch impacting its in-game appearance. While the news may be disappointing to some, the pocket monster hasn't been removed from the game entirely, and Pokémon GO players will see two replacement Pokémon in its place.

Pokémon GO's Ultra Unlock Event - Part 3 begins today, August 20, and is the last Ultra Unlock of Pokémon GO Fest 2021. Several Generation Eight Pokémon have been released as part of the event, which honors Pokémon Sword and Shield. Players have the opportunity to catch Wooloo, Skwovet, Falinks, Zacian, and Zamazenta throughout the event, which also introduces new Field Research tasks and a Sword and Shield Research Quest. Pokémon GO's Ultra Unlock Event - Part 3 runs from Friday, August 20, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. to Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at 8:00 p.m. local time.

Falinks was set to appear in three-star raids for the Pokémon GO event, but developer Niantic has confirmed that the Pokémon will no longer be included due to a "bug causing [Falinks] to appear distorted." Instead, players will encounter Machamp in three-star raids for a limited time, followed shortly by Gengar. Players looking forward to seeing Falinks in the game will still be able to find the Pokémon through Field Research, and its spawn rate in the wild will also be increased to compensate for its raids removal.

Some players have shared their frustrations with the announcement, criticizing Niantic's decision to replace Falinks with Generation One Pokémon who've previously been seen in raids. However, the late notice of the announcement could suggest that Niantic was working to fix the bug before the latest event went live, and had to use previous characters at the last minute. It's hoped that Falinks will appear in raids in a future Pokémon GO event, though this has not been confirmed.

Pokémon GO fans have been enjoying countless celebratory events honoring both the five-year anniversary of the game, and the 25th-anniversary of the Pokémon franchise as a whole. Along with Pokémon GO Fest 2021, the free-to-play mobile game has seen numerous spotlight hours, dedicated Pokémon catching days, and the addition of new Shiny Pokémon. The year has been a lucrative one for Niantic, with Pokémon GO Fest 2021 earning $21 million in just two days. The game shows no signs of slowing down, and with more events and content planned for the future, it's hoped it won't be long before Falinks is returned to the game's raids.
