Throughout its seven seasons, Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans were treated to plenty of memorable guest stars who made deep, lasting impressions with the show's fans. Even the earlier seasons highlighted impressive and sometimes shocking actors who aren't the first to come to mind when fans reflect on the series.
From Amy Adams's brief role as Tara's family-oriented cousin, Beth, to John Ritter's portrayal as Joyce's evil robot boyfriend Ted, these guest stars were as noteworthy as the main characters themselves. Out of all the amazing actors to appear on the series, true fans will definitely remember these unforgettable faces that graced the small screen during their often brief appearances on BtVS.
10 John Ritter As Ted The Evil Robot
In season 2's "Ted," the late John Ritter made a single-episode appearance as Ted Buchanan, a family-oriented and love-obsessed robot that was determined to turn Joyce into his next bride. His appearance as Ted is noteworthy for Ritter's charming portrayal as Ted and being the first life-like robot to appear on the series, which would later feature various realistic robots designed by the clever villain Warren Mears.
Outside of this feature, Ritter was known for his role on ABC sitcom Three's Company which earned him a Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe, proving that his acting on Buffy was definitely worthy of fan's attention.
9 Amy Adams As Tara's Traditional Cousin Beth
Now known for numerous high-profile film roles as well as earning two Golden Globe Awards and various Academy Award nominations, it's no wonder that the amazing Amy Adam's short-lived appearance as Tara's family-oriented cousin Beth Maclay truly stood out.
Adams only appeared in the episode "Family," but her angry reaction to Tara's choice to remain distanced from her family was truly a speech worth remembering for Adam's cold delivery. Her quiet yet aggressive disapproval of Tara's decision was definitely a memorable representation of twisted family values.
8 Clea DuVall As The Invisible Marcie
Her character was invisible for most of the episode, but seasoned actor Clea DuVall still left a lasting impression with her guest-starring role as Marcie Ross in the first season of Buffy on the episode "Out of Mind, Out of Sight."
Now with two Screen Actors Guild Awards under her belt, it's no surprise that DuVall's portrayal of the antagonistic Marcie gave this minor character plenty of relatable and sympathetic moments. She even delivers the last line of the episode before the screen fades out to the credits.
7 Bianca Lawson As Recurring Guest Star Kendra
Actor Bianca Lawson has a long list of acting credits to her name, but one role fans of Buffy won't be forgetting anytime soon is her recurring guest role as the vampire Slayer Kendra Young.
Though she only appeared in three episodes (one of which was two parts), this fiercely focused Slayer was a wonderful contrast to Buffy's reluctant attitude towards slaying and left a lasting impression with fans of the series. Her character was even defeated in her final appearance by Drusilla, one of season 2's noteworthy antagonists.
6 Kal Penn's Portrayal Of A Caveman College Student
Long before Kal Penn made the Harold & Kumar series or appeared on House as Lawrence Kutner, this seasoned actor took on a minor role as Hunt, a UC Sunnydale student with a fondness for hanging out with his friends and drinking Black Frost beer at the local bar.
Though Penn eventually left acting to work as a White House Staff member for the Obama administration, fans of his later work will definitely be thrilled to see Penn's memorable performance as a college student turned goofy caveman. The role might be brief, but Penn's character certainly stands out amongst his group of friends.
5 Amber Tamblyn's Appearance As Dawn's BFF Janice
Though she only appeared in season 6's episode "All the Way," actor, writer, and director Amber Tamblyn left a lasting impression with fans as Dawn's troublemaking best friend, Janice Penshaw. Her role as Janice involved plenty of Halloween mischief, memorable one-liners like referring to her mother as "The Mominator," and getting into trouble with vampires.
With a long list of acting credits since her appearance on Buffy, this guest role might not be Tamblyn's most well-known appearance, but it doesn't make her portrayal as Janice any less unforgettable.
4 Ashanti As Xander's Demon Date, Lissa
R&B and hip-hop artist Ashanti's guest-starring role as Lissa in season 7's episode "First Date" might not be the first thing that comes to mind when fans think of the musical artist, but it doesn't make her appearance on the show any less memorable. Lissa was a demon aligned with the First who chose Xander to be her date/sacrifice.
Ashanti's role also continues the recurring joke that Xander is a "demon magnet" due to his romantic endeavors with demonic women. Of course, Ashanti's character also makes a memorable exit after reverting to her demonic form after Buffy slays her.
3 Hinton Battle As The Dancing Demon Sweet
The multitalented actor, singer, dancer, and dance instructor Hinton Battle was the perfect match for his guest role on Buffy's musical episode "Once More With Feeling." Of course, this episode is not only a fan favorite; it also gave viewers the smooth-talking and villainous singing demon Sweet and his life-sized ventriloquist doll minions.
Yet, amid all the singing and dancing, Battle's character steals the show by showing off his professional skills with grand performances. With Hilton's impressive background, it is no wonder his appearance of Buffy feels larger than life.
2 Conchata Ferrell As Sunnydale High's Nurse Greenliegh
The late Conchata Ferrell was a veteran actor who appeared as a series regular on multiple sitcom shows. Though it might not be her most well-known appearance, the actor had a brief guest role on Buffy as Ruth Greenliegh, the Sunnydale High School nurse.
Though she only appeared in season 2's episode "Go Fish," Ferrell gave a memorable performance as the morally questionable nurse whose actions eventually got devoured by the mutated Sunnydale High Swim Team. By the time poor Nurse Greenliegh got tossed into the sewer tunnels, fans of the series definitely felt her character's loss.
1 Joel Grey As The Glory Worshipping Demon Doc
The multitalented Joel Grey is an actor, singer, dancer, director, and photographer whose work has earned him an Academy Award, a Tony Award, two Grammy Awards, and a Golden Globe. With his impressive background, it's no wonder that his recurring yet, brief guest role on Buffy as the creepy demon Doc has remained a memorable favorite for fans.
He first makes an appearance in season five's episode "Forever" and later makes his exit in "The Gift." Grey's charming portrayal as a character with questionable actions hidden behind a seemingly innocent facade makes this guest role a standout appearance.
