Netflix's Fear Street: The 10 Smartest Characters | ScreenRant

The characters in Netflix's Fear Street trilogy are some of the most compelling in the horror genre. They're racing against time to figure out the curse placed on Shadyside, as there's real danger around. Amidst this wild plot, the audience still gets to know the unique personalities of Sam, Deena, and their friends; the teens at Camp Nightwing are well-crafted as well.

In the best horror movies, characters have to be brave and intelligent in order to stay alive, and that's definitely true of Fear Street, whether fans are watching the first installment set in 1994, the second in 1978, or going back in time to 1666. When thinking about some fan-favorite Fear Street characters, some seem smarter than others, and it's fun to compare those who populate Shadyside and Camp Nightwing.

10 Alice

Appearing in Fear Street Part Two: 1978 set at Camp Nightwing, Alice is definitely a character who seems smart, perceptive, and like she marches to the beat of her own drum.

Alice and Cindy seem to be good friends, but Alice is a lot different from her friend, as she doesn't feel like she fits in and she's fine with that. Alice is smart enough to realize that many of the people at camp are mean, and she holds onto her strong sense of self, even when there's a killer on the loose. Horror movies can take lessons from Fear Street, including how to write great characters like Alice.

9 Heather

Fans meet Heather at the beginning of Fear Street Part One: 1994, and she has a tragic demise that is one of the most brutal deaths in the Fear Street trilogy. When Heather finishes up her shift at the Shadyside Mall, she thinks that she'll head home right away. But instead, she runs away from a killer in a mask and costume, and she dies.

Even though Heather is on screen for a short time, and audiences don't know her as well as some other characters, she still seems fairly intelligent. She can tell that something is wrong right away, and she tries her best to escape the killer, even if she's unsuccessful.

8 Simon

Audiences love Simon, Kate and Deena's friend who sadly dies in the first movie. While Shadyside residents talk about Simon being a drug dealer and they don't want to give him the time of day, he's smart enough to not care what people think about him.

Simon is both brave and intelligent as he works with his friend group to try andstop the Shadyside curse and save more people. He can tell that something terrifying is going on, and that's all thanks to his intelligence, as he doesn't want to pretend that everything is fine.

7 Samantha Fraser

Deena's girlfriend Sam is another smart Fear Street character. In the first movie, she's got a lot of feelings about living in nice Sunnyvale. She likes that the town is fancier and wealthier, which makes sense, but she misses Deena and feels guilt over the end of their relationship.

If Sam wasn't intelligent, she wouldn't be able to tell that Deena is mad at her, and she wouldn't feel bad about her improved living situation. Fans appreciate that Sam knows that her moving away has really hurt Deena.

6 Sarah Fier

One of Fear Street's best characters, Sarah Fier is definitely the most significant character. At the end of Part One, Sarah possesses Sam, and everyone wants to know more about this apparent witch from 1666.

She's also incredibly intelligent, as she figures out that Solomon Goode works something out with the devil so the Solomon family will have tons of power over Shadyside. If she wasn't as smart, she would have been oblivious to this plan. Sarah isn't really a witch, but she's savvy enough to realize that people aren't interested in learning the truth about her.

5 Ziggy/C. Berman

It's fun to learn that Cindy's sister Ziggy grows up to be C. Berman, the Shadyside resident who has so much trauma from the Camp Nightwing massacre that she lives alone in a house with many clocks.

Also one of the smartest characters in the Netflix horror trilogy, C. Berman is cynical and sad as she lives with the knowledge of how dangerous Shadyside can be. She's able to share her story with Deena and her friends, and she also figures out early on that something sinister is going on at camp.

4 Kate

Kate is a fascinating character as she's got street and book smarts. She's the school valedictorian and head cheerleader, but she also deals drugs and can figure out which pills to give Sam so she can overdose and they can bring her back.

Kate is endearing and no-nonsense, and fans wish that she had survived the first movie, although no one can stop talking about the extremely intense way that she dies, which has become part of the pop culture conversation around the horror trilogy.

3 Josh

Fear Street: Part One is a well-done slasher movie, and that's partly thanks to Deena's brother Josh.

At the start of the movie, the other characters aren't that invested in the Shadyside killers or the awful history that this small town has. In contrast, Josh is super smart. He has done lots of research and he believes that everything is connected. He ends up being right and he helps his sister, Sam, Kate, and Simon try to stop the curse. Josh just wants people to listen to him and it makes sense that he becomes so invested in the horrors of his town.

2 Deena

Deena's intelligence stands out the most when she talks about the rivalry between Shadyside and Sunnyvale. She's disgusted by the way that the wealthier residents treat Shadyside dwellers, and she also wants Sam to come out to her friends and family so they can have a relationship that doesn't have to be hidden.

Deena has had a tough life, even though she's so young, and while she can be too pessimistic and cynical at times, she understands that life isn't always fair and some people have to work harder than others to get by in life.

1 Cindy Berman

As she attempts to save the whole camp from the killer at large, Cindy Berman is another smart Fear Street character. She sadly doesn't make it, which is heartbreaking.

Cindy doesn't want to mess around at camp and have fun like some campers and other counselors, and she's cautious and practical throughout the whole movie. While viewers don't see her at school, it seems likely that she worked super hard and was equally careful about doing well on tests and assignments.
