Developer The Farm 51 will soon unleash an overhauled version of tactical shooter World War 3 in a Veteran Alpha Test that kicks off on September 30. The Farm 51 originally deployed the military FPS title via Steam Early Access in the fall of 2018. Those who played World War 3's earlier build were regularly treated to content updates; the studio even hosted a handful of free weekends.
While things moved along swimmingly for a while, The Farm 51's partnership with publisher My.Games ground progress to a halt - at least from the outside looking in. Steam sales of World War 3 were stalled, for one; then the development crew essentially cut off contact from the outside world. Because The Farm 51 seemed exclusively focused on devoting its time to STALKER-like title Chernobylite, many a World War 3 assumed the military shooter had fallen by the wayside. It resurfaced this year, though; in fact, a "Feature Spotlight" outlining myriad uniform and customization options went live just last week. Early adopters will receive another special treat in the coming days.
As reported by DSOGaming, My.Games and The Farm 51 plan to host a Veteran Alpha Test for World War 3 from Thursday, September 30 at 5:00 AM PT to Monday, October 4 at 5:00 AM PT. Only those who purchased the shooter in its Early Access stage will gain access to this exclusive playable session. Better yet, fans who participate in the test can expect to get their hands on an overhauled version of the experience, which will come with two game modes and four maps - Berlin, Moscow, Polyarny, and Warsaw. And anyone interested in taking a closer look at World War 3's development progress can tune in to the game's YouTube page on September 29 at 10:00 AM PT to catch a special broadcast centered around the various improvements.
Keeping in line with its "playable realism" tagline, The Farm 51's improvements to World War 3 have focused on providing an immersive experience from front to back. Thus, animation and general gunplay enhancements appear a top priority, evidenced in the new footage shown throughout the year.
